Re: Success with old bing?
I have the same exact complaint and problem. For me, the new version stinks, especially for Movies (which is the main thing I used it for). And to prevent us from even using the old version adds insult to injury.
Here's a thread I started on this from a few days ago: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=128794 I also posted on a Microsoft forum, and theoretically, the complaint has been heard before and is being sent up the food chain: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/...?prof=required

Re: Success with old bing?
For me: Verizon, Touch Pro 2, Stock 6.1 ROM.
The application itself works fine - that is, no crashes, freezes, gets GPS data, etc. My problem is that the search results are worthless: Movies: Fails to show the primary theater in my home town, while showing a single one in the next town. And it only showed 5 movies total. The User Interface of the prior version, which allowed easy display of either Theaters, or the Movies at a given Theater, is much more functional than the current one. Restaurants: A simple search from my home showed a single obscure restaurant, ignoring the couple of dozen regular name-brand restaurants. Hotels and Motels: Similarly, it showed a single Holiday Inn in the next town, and none from the dozen or more in my home town. So it works, but there seems to be something fundamentally wrong with the search engine itself. In addition, the User Interface, to me, and for my purposes, is inferior to the older version. |

Re: Success with old bing?
You have to remember that MS sells the spots on the search you perform!
If you search for movies, then the ones that come up are the ones that have paid MS for the privilege! Thats why the new bing sucks for searches!

That would certainly fit with what I'm seeing. If that's what they're doing, then it is completely worthless as a true search engine.

Re: Success with old bing?
That is true for me as well...I don't like the search options. Also on the old bing I could sms movie showtimes to friends, and I could save a search item to my contacts so I wouldn't have to look it up again. If you look in the help section of bing it will tell you all the things the new version doesn't do anymore. If you go to menu, help, faq and read "can I share my search results by email or sms? not in this version of bing for mobile, how can I change my starting location? You can't change your starting location,...and on and on
