Battery drain with low signal. Any fix?

Hey guys, I was hoping someone might have a solution to this. I'm assuming my battery drain is due to signal quality, because when i'm at work, my phone will drain about 25% of the battery in about 30 minutes and gets very hot. It seems like the phone keeps turning on and is doing something, although all i have it check in the background is email and weather every half hour or so. This doesn't happen anywhere where i have good signal. I've resorted to putting my phone in airport mode when i'm at work, which is somewhat annoying. I've noticed the same thing happens when i'm in a low signal area. The screen keeps turning on a few seconds after i turn it off.

Is there anyone else having this problem and are there any fixes? i've tried using the Band switcher application and forcing 3g or 1x mode and it doesn't seem to help. I don't know what else to do really.

Thanks for any help.

Re: Battery drain with low signal. Any fix?

i know that when i would go into a low signal area with windows live mail enabled my phone would wake up with a message from windows live saying that the phone is roaming and asks if i would like to use windows live while its roaming . the reason why the battery drains faster in low signal areas is because the phone is working hard to maintain the signal which uses processor power.

Possibly flashing a different radio will help.

Re: Battery drain with low signal. Any fix?

Thanks for the reply guys. What radio would you suggest? Im using whatever camkme with the latest mighty rom. Also, where can i get the force roam cab? is there anyway to make it so it doesnt try so hard to find a signal? i would rather havr a little spottier signal sometimes than having no battery life.

Re: Battery drain with low signal. Any fix?

I'm not sure what band switch app you used, but every one i've seen is for gsm phones, and doesn't control cdma. you can however go into the phone settings and select 1x only, that way the phone won't constantly look for a good evdo signal.
if the option is not there, you may need a reg tweak to enable the option.

it will let you pick roaming only.
Also go under settings, all settings, personal, phone and make sure you have it set to cdma only. If you are in a weak signal area, it might try switching you over to gsm even if the phone can't use it. This will limit the phone's searching options.

Thanks for the tip. It was already set on CDMA only. I think i may have done that before in hope of trying to fix it. I got that program and i'll try roaming only. I hope there's a way to fix that problem though without getting roaming, even if it simply just tries harder to find a signal, since I don't think i have unlimited roaming data with sprint.

Re: Battery drain with low signal. Any fix?

Talk to Sprint about it. They have been very accommodating using Verizon towers (many are in common). I basically have free roam with them (rather than lose me as a customer). I complained about it on a fishing trip in Idaho and they took care of me for free... there are Verizon towers all the way from SF across NEV into IDAHOE and MONTANA.... sometimes its all you see on the horizon.. a Verizon tower. I could watch the bars come and go on my friends Verizon phone...
