Re: WIFI as non anhoc
Question - when you connect your device (laptop) using WiFi Router, does it show as an infrastructure connection or an ad-hoc connection? I use a custom ROM as well and every one I've tried show the connection as ad-hoc. This makes it difficult for some devices to connect as they can not use ad-hoc connections

Re: WIFI as non anhoc
I'm using Mighty Rom and it shows up as an Ad-Hoc connection. I haven't seen any that show up as Infrastructure but I would like that as well. My company laptop blocks Ad-Hoc connections so I can't connect wirelessly between my phone and laptop for internet. I have to use the USB cable which is not as convenient.

Re: WIFI as non anhoc
If you have admin rights to your work laptop you can temporarily add the ability to join an ad-hoc network.
BACKUP, then delete the following reg branch: HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Wireless\ GPTWirelessPolicy Then Reboot Now you can join ad-hoc networks. Re-import the reg backup file to restore your company wan policy. |

Re: WIFI as non anhoc
Run regedit and see if there is a policy defined here:
HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Wireless\ GPTWirelessPolicy On the laptop that is, not on the phone. |

1)person x wants company comuter to do action y. 2)company z doesnt like that and has i.t. person keep you from doing that on company laptop. 3)person x uses some program to get around that or does a reg edit. 4)company z finds out and fires person x for tampering with company property! 5)person x has a lot more free time to spend on ppcgeeks.com (the greatest website ever!) just be careful where you tread in a company computer's registry. thats all im sayin. |

Re: WIFI as non anhoc
The reason companies lock you out of ad-hoc networks is because there are a lot of hackers out there who share their internet on their laptop as 'Free Public WiFi' then capture/sniff all the traffic of the people who think it's "legit" - all the while capturing any weak and clear-text passwords, as well as unsecured laptop file security.
If you know enough not to connect to those things, ad-hoc is just fine. Restore the registry when you're done with your cell phone and work is none the wiser. :P Then again, I know our IT guy. |
