Re: Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2 in reboot loop
I pressed it a few times and it resets the device each time. I suppose it is working okay and is not stuck.

Re: Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2 in reboot loop
I have been reading through so many forums and it has occurred to me that this particular device has both CDMA and GSM modes. Is it possible that the device could be locked in GSM mode? This may explain why the CDMA ROMs that i have tried flashing are not working.
Is there a stock ROM for the HTC Touch Pro 2 GSA ROM? Thank you! |
Re: Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2 in reboot loop
no your phone is not locked in GSM mode. you wouldn't flash a GSM rom on your device even if its a worldphone. because your phone is CDMA. it's not considered a GSM phone. you will surely have a very shiny paperweight if you flash a GSM rom on it.

Re: Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2 in reboot loop

Re: Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2 in reboot loop
I apologize, this is my first forum and first thread so I apologize for not knowing the proper etiquette.
I have also been more concerned with trying to fix this device because it is for work and the deadline to have the device up and running is quickly approaching. I will give the proper thanks where it is deserved. |
Re: Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2 in reboot loop
it sounds like the phone just wigged out on you all of a sudden. it's been mentioned before...have you contacted sprint yet to let them know the problem you are having with the device? because if they can't help you figure it out, they may just do a replacement under warranty.

Re: Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2 in reboot loop
Unfortunately, this device was purchased from EBAY a couple of months ago and has no insurance or warranty. Because of this, I am willing to try any and all suggestions as there isn't much to lose at this point.
I read on the XDA-Developer forum that sometimes you have to run the relocker and then flash the stock ROM in order to get out of the reboot loop. http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...22#post7402622 When I try to run the relocker, it never moves pass 0% and then it eventually times out. Anyone have any advice or suggestions on that? Thank you! |

Did you try task29 yet? Then flash the shipped rom. |
Re: Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2 in reboot loop
Horndoctor,
Yes, I tried it through bootloader and the progress bar just sits at 0%. I also tried it through the sd card and the screen just shows Loading... |

Re: Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2 in reboot loop
and since your phone was not unlocked, that works in your favor. im guessing that the device is already active on an account with sprint? if so, your best bet is to call sprint and tell them you're phone is not going pass the bootloader after a hard reset. like i said...they'll most likely do a warranty replacement. just tell them you bought a tp2 over a month ago without saying it was from ebay.
or...you can try to see what sprint can do for you by contacting one of the sprint employees that happens to be a member of this forum. i was reading an old thread last night where they identify themselves....but can't remember where in the forum it is. i'll post link to the thread as soon as i find it. edit... here's the thread with sprint employee members... http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=60371 |
Re: Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2 in reboot loop
Today, the same thing has happened to me. However, in my case, my phone was unlocked and this happened after I did a successful Task29. I completed the Task29 last night, but did not flash a ROM on it at the time, as it was getting late and I was tired. Instead, I shut the phone off and left it to charge using the AC Adaptor. This morning when I went to go turn the phone on, I noticed it is in the constant reboot cycle just like in the case of the OP. The phone wont stay on long enough for me to relock it and flash it to stock. Matter of fact, it shuts off within 10 seconds. I called Sprint and they offered to ship me a replacement battery as I have insurance and Im still under the 1 year manufacturers warranty. I hope to god that it is just the battery that is toast. I tried all the steps listed in this thread, and can't get it to even power on for longer than 10 seconds. Dog Mom, did you try charging the phone using the other charger? I read in another thread of a member having a similar issue. He stated that after a few days, the issue went away by itself. Perhaps the phone needs to be totally free of any electrostatic charge remaining.

Unfortunately, there is no active account associated with this device. The devices were purchased to be used as handheld PCs. I appreciate the info and I will search through that thread as well. |

Re: Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2 in reboot loop
I just tried flashing from the SD card and I noticed that when the bootloader screen appears, there is an error code behind the bootloader information. I can't make out what it says and the bootloader screen only appears for a few seconds before going through with the update. The update loads and still shows successful, but once again, we are back in the reboot loop. Any idea what the error may be and/or how to correct?
Do you think the SD card may be bad? We don't currently have a spare, but we may be able to get one over the weekend to try. Thanks! |

I've tried it both ways, but I have been trying to flash through my laptop with the SD card removed and this time I copied the nbh file to the SD card and to see if that made any difference. As I stated in the earlier post, I can see an error behind the Bootloader info, but I can't make out what it says and the ROM update loads successfully but the device remains in the reboot loop. |
Re: Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2 in reboot loop
Just an update to my situation. I received the new battery in the mail today. The phone stays on now without the constant rebooting. I know you stated that you tried a different battery before. If you can take the phone to a cell phone store, perhaps a technician will be kind enough to test one of their batteries on your phone. Try to go to a Sprint Authorized Repair Center, but not a Sprint store. I noticed that the technicians at the non-sprint stores are more willing to help out even if the phone is out of warranty/non-insured
|
Re: Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2 in reboot loop
Wow, thanks for the update. I can't help but think that the battery is the issue here. Even though we have tried 3 different batteries, all of them are used.
I will see if I can get my hands on a new battery. Thanks again and I am glad to hear that your device is back up and running! |
Re: Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2 in reboot loop
make sure you dont have a sim in there.... something messed up my att sim before i switched to tmobile and i had problems left n right.....
put the phone in bootloader mode and then run the unlocker, you might have to give it a shot in manual mode. you will know when it is successful when you have the phone in bootloader and it reads that the version is something like 1.00 olinex or something like that once you do that then run task29... IIRC task29 isn't going to load because your phone is still locked, and you have so many failed attempts at loading a rom it is better to just clear it out. once task29 is completed then put it back in bootloader mode and try loading one of the stock roms, for sanity's sake lets use the 6.1 version.... less possiblity of glitches. try that... and for reference, bootloader, or also known as the tri color is accessed while the phone is off, so remove the battery and unplug the phone, then reinstall the battery. push the vol down button and the top power/sleep button depending on carrier at the same time until the bootloader screen appears then |
Re: Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2 in reboot loop
Thank you for the suggestions and I definitely want to try it with the steps you have listed, but I have made several attempts to run the unlocker from bootloader mode before, but even in manual mode, it sits at 0% and then eventually times out. Are there different unlocker packages that I should try or what do you suggest to get through this first step?
Thank you! |
Re: Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2 in reboot loop
i would just take it to a sprint repair center (actual sprint store) and see what they say it couldn't hurt at all to try, they may find a quick fix.
call htc they will ask you to ship it to them, as long as it is not damaged they will fix it. |
Re: Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2 in reboot loop
I took the device to a Sprint Repair Center this morning, as several of you had suggested. The guy at the store was more than willing to help. He did a soft reset, a hard reset and even tested it with a new battery. We are still stuck in the reboot loop. It was worth a try!

Re: Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2 in reboot loop
when you are trying to flash Task29 and it is not completing... download Task29 to your PC, hook up the phone to the PC, right click task29 and select run as admin...
Does that get you any further? |
Re: Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2 in reboot loop
Thank you for the replies. We are using this as pocket PCs only, so we are not interested in typing a service contract to it.
I will try the Task 29 steps you suggested a let you know how it goes. Thanks again! |
Re: Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2 in reboot loop
I'm on the same boat as the OP, but my TP2 is unlocked.
I can get into bootloader, flash stock ROM (which completes 100%), but my device reboots a few seconds after showing the HTC splash screen. Now I'm wondering if there's any software that can fully reset the phone (like the manufacturer does). I know that the ROM that ships with these devices is not "built" into the hardware, but rather loaded into it by the manufacturer according to specifications from the carriers. So there has to be a way for us to do the same. If anyone here knows how, please, please share the knowledge. Thanks in advance. |
