How to lock volume buttons while phone is locked?

I am on stock 6.5 with s2u2 installed. When my phone is locked, the volume buttons are still functional...therefore, sometimes the volume will lower or even go on vibrate when I hit the button by accident. Is there something I can do to lock the volume buttons?

I use LockDevice and all buttons lock when phone locks. Maybe switch locking apps

Pocketshield and LockDevice are pretty rock solid

Thanks, but I prefer s2u2.

Anyone else have any ideas? I removed and reinstalled s2u2 a few times with no success. I believe this just started happening recently after months of use. Maybe the settings changed somewhere?

Are you on the latest version? I know they update that program pretty often.

I believe so, but it didn't happen the first few months on 6.5.

Re: How to lock volume buttons while phone is locked?

I too use S2U2, and I would like to know how to lock up volume key too. My problem is when I put my phone in the pouch, both volume keys may get pressed together. Combined with a touch on the screen, the phone goes to align screen mode. Sounds odd, I know, but it has happened more times then I can tolerate.

Re: How to lock volume buttons while phone is locked?

At the moment, there does not seem to be an explanation as to why this occurs.

My HTC TP2 has been using S2U2 for awhile and the volume controls would always lock when the screen locked. NO MORE!
One day they locked and the next they did not. I don't monkey around with installing all kinds of programs, so the device remained essentially the same from the time I installed S2U2.

The phone uses 6.5 but was never upgraded after installing S2U2 either.
Thus far, I have not found a setting or program that is causing the conflict with the device controls.

Over at XDA Developers forum, the same question has been asked, and no resolution found so far.

I sent a support email to the developer of S2U2 and am waiting on an answer which I will post if received.

What I did to limit the problems is to turn the phone in the case so the volume buttons face upwards (case is horizontal) not the bottom which reduces pressure on the keys.

I did not try a hard reset because at this stage, it is not worth it. The volume controls are NOT normally locked without having S2U2, so there is no real problem with the phone.

Wish I had a better answer. :confused1:

why can't you guys stray from s2u2 ? I use the default lock screen . and have loved it ever since . however I do prefer the 6.5.x lockscreen over 6.5 . I did have s2u2 installed but didn't like it , went and bought pocketshield . It was better than s2u2 , but yet here I am using the stock . Absolutly love it .

I recommend you completely uninstall s2u2 and then reinstall it and set it up again. When I say completely I mean after you run Remove Programs use File Explorer and delete the folder S2U2 in Program Files and then go into the registry and delete the registry tree HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/A_C/S2U2.

FYI If you installed any software that remaps any keys they can break s2u2's locking abilities.

Did you happen to install Rhodium Keyboard Controller?

qanda 09-11-2011 08:35 PM

Re: How to lock volume buttons while phone is locked?

Nope. Here is some additional info.

If I allow the WinMo 6.5 system lock to take over, it locks the keys every time. If I then set S2U2 to replace the WM lock, S2U2 activates even when I use the system lock button which is correct.
So, if S2U2 IS replacing the WM lock, then I can't understand why it won't lock the keys.

Therefore, whatever manner in which S2U2 'connects' to the volume keys is not working.

Its like having two light switches to control the same light. One works and the other doesn't.

For sure, it is not the device. I have checked all the relevant settings in S2U2 that might affect the volume keys: In Call volume, Dont lock Volume Keys, Dont use Keyboard hook etc.

Out of ideas.:???:

Hmm...well maybe it's rom dependent meaning it has some compatibility issue with 6.5 or with Sense 2.5 or something like that. I'm using 6.1 so maybe there is some difference there. :dontknow:

Maybe elesb will save the day? ;)

@horndoctor, im gonna need some helpp . i have a mortscript that will lock the volume buttons , all it does it write a reg value when S2U2 comes active , and writes it back to original when it becomes unactive , however , for some reason it seems that my script isnt waiting for S2U2 to become unactive , therefore it just keeps running the script when its locked . any ideas ?

Hmm...I wish I knew exactly what to tell you to try. Maybe split the script into 2 seperate scripts? One to run once when s2u2 exe is running and then one to run when it isn't. :dontknow:

The developer informed me the cause of the issue with it not locking the volume keys is the manner in which HTC TP2 locks the volume keys. Apparently, S2U2 is not able to lock them on all HTC models.

In addition, of late, S2U2 will not unlock with an incoming call, and BOTH the stock 'slide to answer' and the S2U2 answer buttons appear one on top of the other.

Why has it become so unstable......who knows.

Regarding the Winmo lock: It is fine except that in order for the device to lock automatically after a preset time, you must use a delay setting and password. This becomes a nuisance since you need to unlock the device each time to access it.

Also, the stock TP2 can only display one appointment on either the lock screen or today screen, and two on the Calender sub-screen.

S2U2 had more flexibility.

Yes, S2U2 has gone by by.

I didn't change anything in the registry just installed and configured it. I have it set to turn off the screen if the power button is pressed and/or I get a text and the proximity sensor is blocked which is one of the main things I like about it because we all know about that issue.
I can push the power button and the screen comes on and it's locked and push the volume buttons and nothing happens. When I unlock it and check the volume is unchanged.

I downloaded the Mort zip and found the CAB for PPC.
Do I install the Mort CAB first, then the Volume Keys CAB or vice versa?
Once the CABs are installed, do I need to do anything else?
Wll the file associatons be registered by using the CABs?
Will the script be read when S2U2 locks the screen or is there a manual operation that must be initiated?
(That would stink).

I'll wait for your instructions before proceeding.

ELESBB....Please read above post re: mort script.

I tend to agree that the WM lock screen works every time, but why would you use your script with the WM lock screen when it locks the volume keys anyway?
Did I miss a post? What script do you refer?

I wish there was a way to have the lock screen display more than one appointment. I can live with the drop down Lock icon for mail, calls etc.

HTC said Sprint designed the software that way and they won't change it unless Sprint wants to do it. It would be nice if the WM lock screen would reflect at least the number of appointments waiting to be viewed.

hey i thank you for not jumping into conclusions and doing things on your own ! thank you !

However,
it doesnt matter which you install first but i did fail to mention you MUST restart your device in order for the script to be ran .

So for instruction purposes follow this:
1. Install mortscript
2. Install my cab
3. Restart phone (simple power off power on will do)
4. Test it out

Well yeah i dont use the script posted in this thread, i made another one which would allow you to change the delay time that the screen would shut off , cause without my script , if you recieved a text message while your phone was in your pocket the screen would come on and not shut off until the predetermined time set in the power settings which the lowest was 30 sec. Also , if your screen was on in your pocket and any buttons were getting pressed or the screen was getting pressed the device stayed on no matter what . with my script you could set the delay time to any integer value in seconds . i set mine to 4 sec . so while the phone is locked and off , if the screen turns on , it will power off in 4 seconds regardless what is going on . thus saving MUCH battery .

Ha thats a lie . the lockscreen is HIGHLY customizeable . im still goofing around with it . it shouldnt be too hard to add more appointments , i never really keep appointments in my phone so i never encountered this . i personally love the tap to show more feature . let me look into that app number for ya :D im currently trying to change just the background of the lockscreen to something other than whats on the today screen .

Ok. So all the file associations are registered through the cabs. Right?
If it does not work well, how do I uninstall the Mort Script, and the Volume Key Lock file?

So you had a script to work with the WM lock screen to change the standby delay like S2U2 does?
The Lock options in WM 6.5 will do that, but you are stuck with using a password, and it will lock each time it goes into standby mode. That's fine but not when you need to enter the password every time you want to make a call, or check a message.
Does your script allow the user to set a delay WITHOUT using a password? Will the device lock after the delay?
That would be great.
Would you consider posting the CAB as an option?

That would be great. The stock lock screen is held to one appointment unless you can figure out a way to get more.
S2U2 can display up to 6, so it has to be possible.

Hey, that's an easy one if your running 6.5 with the Sense UI or Manila. You can do it via Settings, Menu/AllSettings/Today. Click on the box at the bottom and browse to wherever, and select whatever. I change the background all the time on the Lock screen. It's user selectable.

The TP2 does have some querks, but with some slight fixes, it is a great device.

well the only file associations will be the .mscr which is why you need to install mortscript .

everything is fully uninstallable through settings - remove programs

yes when the device was locked and the screen became active , my script would turn it off after a user defind delay

the WM lock screen would not shut offon its own after the device became active while it was locked . Thus why I wrote the script .

you can use a program such as lockdevice to lock your device the instant it shuts off (as in standby not power off) my script will then shut the screen off after a preset delay if the screen becomes active say while its in your pocket or something

Thanks a lot! I'll try the 'screen-off' script with the stock lockscreen to see how it works. As you suggested, I will use LockDevice also.

Now if we can come up with a way to get more than one appointment on the lock screen, we're rockin!

With your scripts, the device will now dim, go into standby, and lock.
If it wakes, it will go by-by after the delay I set.

Who could ask for more? Me. =D> If you figure out the appointment thing, send me a PM so I will take notice.

Sorry about you having an issue with the background in Titanium. Don't have clue on how to change the background with that one.

Regards

Thanks. That would cover all the bases: auto-locking, time delay on wake, and for reminders, I use ReRemind.
Once you figure out the appointment thing (and I'm sure you will..=D>),
then the stock Lock screen will be super and I won't need to go back to S2U2 which presented a few issues that could not be resolved.

Apparently so.:) If you weren't, we would not have those great scripts you wrote which improve the stock Lock, and fix an issue with the volume keys for S2U2 users.

Now we out here in phone land have two ways to go: Improved WM Lock, or S2U2.

Want to consider a new little project? Figure out a way to have the device unlock to the home screen like S2U2.
If the fix was a simple registry entry using a '0 or 1' as the switch, then the user could change it easily, or a cute little GUI like Lock Device. :)
