Be nice now. :) Remember I'm old fashioned and stock! :-\" I did flash a cooked 6.5 ROM on the Vogue, and although it had some nice features, and less bloatware than stock, it had too many conflicts with apps that I needed to install, and the developer was no longer around to patch it up.
Except for the small issues, one of which your script helped eliminate, the TP2 isn't really bad.
Kind of pretty actually. 8)

The stock ROM uses the slider to get back to Home, or I can X the functions to close to go back the long way, or tap a hard key. I also found a HOME lnk in the Start screen.

But your going to show me a better way.......Right? :)

fresh flash , install of lockdevice , reset , mortscript then my unlock to home cab , no problems at all . heres the cab again , install then tap unlock to home in the start menu . then restart device . "Start" is the correct string to be found in the HomeScrn file . give it another go . best of luck !

Ok, right script but it still does not unlock to the Home page.

Here is a step by step of what I did:

Method 1
1. installed via CAB
2. soft reset
3. Tapped the Unlock to Home icon in the Start menu. First message came up and asked that I navigate to the Home page in 5 seconds.
This is where things get confusing. There are few ways to 'navigate' to the Home page. I can X out the Start menu, or use the hard key. I tapped the icon, then used the hard key to return to Home.
4. The second message comes up to try the Unlock to Home
5. I opened the device to my Inbox, let it time out and then lock.
6. I unlock the device, and it remains on the Inbox.

Method 2
Steps 1, 2 and 3 are the same except:
After tapping YES to the first message, I tapped the top bar to go into the Start menu and tapped the HOME icon.
4. Screen jumped to Home a second or two before the second message came up. I figured this worked.
5. I opened up my Calender, then let the device time out and lock.
6. I unlocked the device, and it remained on the Calender.

Ok, what am I doing wrong?

lol uninstall the cab , reinstall , DO NOT SOFT RESET that is not needed . then just tap the unlock to home icon found in the start menu , it SHOULD automatically go back to the home screen . then just let it sit for a little . then after the message says you should try it , then try it .

I followed your instructions exactly but still no good.
Here is what I did.
1. uninstallcab....done
2. reinstall script.....done
3. soft reset....NOPE
4. tapped the Unlock to Home icon. Went to Home screen. So far so good.

I let is sit, and sit. It almost timed out twice (2 mintues). It did not go to the message "to try it". The first message "5 seconds to navigate to home screen" came up. I waited to see if it would go by itself to the second message but it didn't, so I decided to tap YES.
6. It sat for a second or two, THEN the "try it" message came up. I tapped OK.
7. I opened the Inbox, and let it time out on the Inbox as before.
8. Unlocked device and it remained on the Inbox.

I repeated steps 4 to 8 two more times, but no luck.

Back to square one. I think I did exactly as you instructed, but it isn't working as expected. Something is wrong.

You tested it on your HTC TP2 loading Sense and it worked without issue? Strange.
I'll leave this in your capable hands as mine are tied right now. ](*,)

Keep me posted. I can't thank you enough for the time your putting in to this. Sorry we are not getting the reward as yet.

hmmm when you say inbox what do you mean by that ? if you mean the sense messaging , then it wont go back to the slider tab "home" . open file explorer and try it , it works for me when any app is open on stock 6.5 rom ..

Email Inbox. I slide over to Email, then open the Inbox and leave it that way until it locks.
When I had S2U2 installed, it would return to the Home screen every time. No matter how I left the device, or where, it would always unlock to the Home screen with the clock and weather, Quick links, and slider bar.

Quote:

.....if you mean the sense messaging , then it wont go back to the slider tab "home" .
Whenever it boots, and after the Windows screen, it says Launching Sense. System information lists Manila ver. 2.5. I am not leaving it on the SMS screen, so it should not be a factor. Right?

Quote:

I tried it with Camera open, File Explorer open, Word Mobile open, a scientific calculator and others. When unlocked, it stays where it was.

We checked the OS and ROM. It's stock, and as I have said, the device is capable of unlocking to the Home screen since S2U2 was able to perform the operation, but had too many other issues.

I wish there was more information that could be provided. Any entries I could check? Diagnostics? Registry entries? Snapshot? (Don't have an app for that yet).

Since you have it working on the stock 6.5 ROM you tired, I'll understand if you don't wish to spend any more time on this. It was worth a try.

All caught up on your 'Thanks'.

Re: How to lock volume buttons while phone is locked?

this script is so simple i can't believe its not working lol . i will get this working for you !

all the script does is check the registry to see if the device is locked , and if youre using lockdevice it will lock it when it goes into standby . then it checks to see if it has become unlocked , then it opens the window which holds your home screen . there are only 3 things which can go wrong , 1st , its not changing the reg value , 2nd its not noticing the reg change , and 3rd its not getting the window .

we know the script is getting the proper window , and i think the reg values are being read properly , as you said my other script works . ill make a diagnostic script which will log everything . in the mean time , change the "Screen off when locked" delay time to like 5 just to confirm its working properly .
thanks qanda !

My bet is on #2. I checked the lock state and it changes as it should. We also know that after I tap the Unlock icon, it jumps to the Home page, so it knows where to go. It may be a question of it not knowing WHEN to go.

Ok, let me know what you wish me to do. I know my way around a registry editor in case you need some values checked.

Screen off when Locked set to 5 seconds. Works fine.

when is based off the reg entries , it has two while statements one checks for when it does lock , then the second checks for when it unlocks . i may need a sleep entry before checking to see if its unlocked , your device may be a split second slower in changing a reg entry then what mortscript can read .

well then we know thats good . all the info you just gave me narrows it down to the last while statement and the command to switch windows . i'll start there .

all the cabs i create from here on out , INSTALL WITHOUT UNINSTALLING the original . any cab i creat from here on out will overwrite any files it needs . so just leave my "unlock to home screen" cab installed onto the device .

im not doing much today (other than black ops and battlefield 3 xP) so i can work on it today . im eager to get this working ! :D

Funny you should mention the device being a bit slower. I do notice that it lags a command such as Back or X. It takes a second or so to compete the action, so the time factor on the 'when' may be the answer.

That shouldnt be making it lag , if you look at any process manager you will see that the MortScript.exe process uses like 1 percent of CPU and only for like one second . there was only one script i wrote which resulted in MortScript.exe using 99 percent CPU xP and resulted in SOD . but fear not , i have come a long ways since those days xD

I'v heard of step by step instructions but this is comical.

I did a soft reset. What is supposed to happen?

I ran the procedure again. It still doesn't work, and I don't see any diagnostic result.

That was funny. Last nite, nothing happened at all. I did try the procedure over but it didn't work. No message at all. That is why I left you the post I did. I was puzzled. I expected something to happen.

Here's what happened this morning.

At first, I unlocked the device and the Qanda message popped up. The device WAS on the home screen, so nothing changed.

Next, I opened File Explorer and let the device time out and lock.
I unlocked the device. It remained on the File Explorer, but the Qanda message appeared. I checked OK, but it did not go to the Home screen.

I tried locking and unlocking the device leaving it on the Home screen. The message stopped appearing no matter what I did. If I unlock it now, no message.

As a last test, I ran the Unlock to Home procedure again, leaving the File Explorer open. I received both messages as before: 5 second, and Try again. It timed out and locked. I unlocked the device and it remained on the File Explorer, and no Qanda message.

NOW, I did a soft reset. The message started to appear again. After one or two tries, the message stops.

It seemed to be trying, but the diagnostic script seemed to fail after a few tries.

I guess things are not so smooth. :???:

I'll be flying today but will be back on forum later this afternoon. This issue is really getting to me. Very strange.

And let's not talk about hard reset. Too much trouble. hahahaha

Ok. I'll give it a try shortly. What's supposed to happen this time? lol
As for the Home icon, I may be able to help you with that one. I'm pretty good at tracking down links, paths and such.
Be back on in an hour or so.
Really appreciate your efforts. =D>

Re: Unlock

Well, you did something. After installing, I noticed the backlight would dim but never turned off. Gee whiz!
A soft reset was the only option I had at the moment. It seemed to restore normal function.

The Qanda message comes up more frequently, but not every time I unlock. If I continue to unlock, the message stops appearing AND the backlight goes out immediately. It never dims first (30 second set), and does not wait the (1) minute to which I have it set to power down.

Could the script disrupte the normal device timeouts for the screen including backlight?

IMPORTANT QUESTION: Does your diagnostic script permanently change any registry settings? In case things go wrong, will uninstalling the script put things back to where they were? The device is starting to become unstable, so I need a way to restore it to normal operation quickly. We can always analyze what happened later, but the phone is my only source of contact with clients on the road.

QA

PS: I tried to help with the Home icon but your right. It shows nowwhere. Could it be hard coded?
Would it be possible to find the Home icon used in the slider?

Oh well. Back to the drawing board.

The script seems the script has disrupted the normal device timeouts for the screen including backlight.

Previous post was edited after you posted your reply. Please look it over. Since I'm not all too familiar with scripts and how they interact with the registry, I have a few questions that I added to the previous post. I'm always trying to learn more about these things so don't be offended by the silly questions.

Ok, if your script isn't doing it, then lets move on.

The time to read the registry was increased but it still is not working correctly. Do you have any other ideas?

Re: How to lock volume buttons while phone is locked?

elesbb,

This might confuse things, but I removed the Screen Off when Locked and the issue with the Backlight stopped. I noticed that when the Backlight suddenly shut down, it was usually about 5 seconds. It didn't dim, just went off. I'll put the script back shortly.

Not sure what this means, but I wanted to let you know in case both scripts are running into the same trouble.

Can I remove the diagnostic script now, or do you want me to leave it installed?

the screen off when locked script is supposed to shut off the screen after the timed delay that you set . if you set it to 5 seconds and it shuts the screen off after 5 seconds then its functioning properly .. it doesnt dim the display .

and you can remove it if you want to , i am begining to wonder if the issue has something to do with having s2u2 on your device before . cause every script works perfectly on the stock rom , so it should work for you ... would you be able to use spb backup or another app to backup everything so you can try a hard reset ? hard resets are good every once in a while anyhow ;)

ooooo i has an idea , immediatly following an unlock , try to adjust the volume using the volume keys . if it "lags" or delays before adjusting the volume then there is some considerable lag in changing the reg entry on windows part , thus providing my script useless for unlocking to home .

True, but I have it set to 15 seconds, not 5 seconds.:???:

I guess anything is a possiblity, but I did a clean removal in all directories, and the registry. There isn't any trace of it on the device (that I know of)

I could, but not in the next few days. Too busy and I need time to set up the device after the hard reset with the apps I need which I do not have with me at the moment. Flying around the country and didn't take my files with me.

Once unlocked, it takes one or two presses on the volume key to bring up the volume screen and change the setting. This is usually what it does unless you think it is too long.

At the moment, I think we are at a standstill until I can find the time to hard reset the device. It is possible that something in the OS is messed up. It could have been S2U2 which developed issues, or it could simply be something went astray. Who knows.

It seems as if its the OS not functioning fast enough , mine adjusts volume instantly , but then again mine is a FRESH flash and not too much was installed or edited . but the thing that gets me is how i can run it perfectly on stock but you cant :/

PS: im jealous of you for flying around the country ! come visit me in boring old PA and take me away !!!! lol
