Re: Why is everyone so against the WModem concept for TP2?

Sorry wildpig, I did read your posts but I guess I missed that part. Hope you find a solution. Have you searched or posted on xda-developers? Since that's a more technical crowd, they may understand the details of your situation better. With any luck a developer may be able to suggest a fix or even create one for you.

Re: Why is everyone so against the WModem concept for TP2?

boredandtattooed

I am going to downgrade bk to 6.1. I do hve a gut feeling that it might work. but i am not sure what other things i might "break" by going back to 6.1. GPS was a real shit on TP w/ 6.1 and it seems a lot better now on TP2 6.5 but I hv\avent tested that completely yet....

I just want to throw out what i said in my post hoping that either someone has already gone thr and might have an answer. Just surprised at the answers. Seems no one has.

I feel like I could make an analogy to apple iphone: yes, iphone is definitely easier to use compared to WM phones (like ICS is easier to set up), yes maybe that's why it sells by the millions and WM phones are not. But which one is "really" better? Well, we all know the answer

Easier is not always the better answer..... The way that Wmodem works gives you a lot more flexibility over the way ICS works. I know for most people it doesn't matter, but that like saying for most people iphone is easier to use than WM.... (you get my point)...

I am not hesistant to try just about anything. And like I say, i am going to downgrade to 6.1 and it will probably work, but just wondering if anyone else has any other suggestions... And even if downgrading back to 6.1 works, I still would like to know why it does not work on 6.5? It;s always good to know what changes HTC and sprint make and what exactly the changes affect.....

Re: Why is everyone so against the WModem concept for TP2?

Today by coincidence I setup a wmodem for my friend for their netbook so they could use securemote and timbukto pro vpn...

I tested both ICS and htc wifi router and obviously they didn't work but I tried...

Then I setup wmodem 2.5 i think it was or 2.25..it was on wm6.5.3 and using XP.. FYI this doesn't mean it won't work in windows 7/vista and wm6.1/wm6.5 it probably will just giving you what I used.

I installed the drivers using the wmodem driver installer..and then set it to dial #777

and same as you I got stock on the verification. So here is what I did to fix it:

I went to configure the modem and enabled:

hardware flow control
modem error control
modem compression

show terminal window

I also set the speed to max.

I also disabled asking for user login in the dialer.

I then reset the phone and enable data connection through IE to make sure it works...then I went to wmodem, configured APN to "Sprint", connected wire and ran it..it gave error to disable the data connection..so I went to disable it in command manager..then went back to wmodem and ran it..

then I dialed and it ran, it gave me a black window because I enabled terminal which I just clicked Continue button and it went through, internet worked

and most important VPN worked

So try the above and see if it works for you. It may have been only one of the things on top that made the difference but he above is exactly what I did to get it working.

Re: Why is everyone so against the WModem concept for TP2?

My kids were trying to use the home wifi to connect to their nintendo ds lites, but the ds lites don't support the security I have set up on our router, they want wep keys. So I thought I would try with wmwifirouter or htc wifi and even though both showed the tp2 for wifi spots, neither one could connect.
So I can feel your frustration, but if no one is using the program, no one can help. looks like you got a solution hope it works for you.
For me, I think I will just change the security on the home router to WEP so they can connect. Just means everything else in the house has to be reconfigured for it (wii, 4 laptops, etc).

thanks! much appre. Finally some1 else confirms that VPN does not want to play w/ ICS.

I am traveling on the road right now so don't have the computer w/XP. The computer I am using W/ win7 I couldn't find the option to enable terminal-window. I did do the other stuffs regarding the modem Settings in 7 though.

I am still stuck in same place unfortunately , but there is now definitely @ least some hope. will keep working...

Where do you go to enable terminal in XV? Is it same area as modem config?

Much appreciate everyone input. I know this is not what most people to connect to internet and even myself agree that ICS isreally easier to setup and use, but it'S not what you need sometimes

The terminal thing is for debugging..it is not in config but under connection settings when I click properties on the dialup but in win 7 they changed connection settings so not sure where it would be.

Just to confirm aside from that you followed the direction exactly? and dialing #777? also did you disable windows mobile center?

Re: Why is everyone so against the WModem concept for TP2?

If you use Dial Up Networking (DUN) to connect to the internet on your phone, you are more likely to transmit the DUN NAI when you authenticate. If they see you authenticate using your DUN NAI, they can charge you for it.

I did this a few years ago and to ensure I wasn't detectable I would change the DUN NAI in EPST to match the regular NAI. That being said Bluetooth DUN should work without any additional software if the DUN NAI has been changed. It will also give you a non-NATed public IP.

An annoyance that I have had with DUN is that you have to turn off all internet bound applications including Activesync before you dial up, otherwise they tend to disconnect your session.

In terms of VPN, I use PPTP to connect to work and never had any issues with it over ICS. Now if your company uses IPSEC, the protocol is a bit more complex and does not like traversing NAT.

Got pretty much everything except the terminal window. No go still. But will keep working @ it .

Your friend did have a Sprint TP2 right? Did you use the ICS and MWodem fix.cab or only make the reg changes (only the ones specifically mentioned in the mogu thread) manually?

Trying to see exactly what made the difference since the symptom of being stucked @ the login you described exactly like me so it must be the same prob to start w/

here is what I used:

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=27313

I did not use the hack but it is possible it was built in... as for ICS was pre-installed on the rom...wmodem wasn't

WModemDriverInstaller.zip for drivers

WModem_2.25_Cab.zip for cab

And yes I was also stuck at login..the I did the changes I mentioned before..then I reset the phone..on boot I ran IE to get internet..once I got internet I plugged it in..made sure I still had internet..ran wmodem..it gave an error to disable internet connection..so I went in comm manager and just unclicked Data..went back to wmodem and started it again and then dialed and it went through...

When you dial do you see the data connection on your tp2?

Also for record I was doing USB and not Bluetooth conenction

Re: Why is everyone so against the WModem concept for TP2?

got back home. tried on xp. still doesnt work w/ terminal window enabled

0nly thing I did which mightbe different Was I did install the ics and wmodem fix.cab . Don't know if that interfere w/ it or not, Might try to see if i can undo or hand reset phone even.

If anyone else here have wmodem working on their tp2 w/ 6.5 rom or have any input ,much appreciate to hear from you. I know its a very small minority buf I know you are out there, thnx
