Re: how much better is the TP2

Key points for me are:

1. 5row keyboard - Reviews rated pretty high
2. larger wqva screen - brilliant
3. windows mobile possibilities are almost endless.
4. future of dual/tri/booting of linux-based OS i.e Andriod
5. New Sense UI developments
6. Hardware wise its just solid
7. etc
8. etc

I didn't like how over time the TP became very sluggish and non responsive. There were a lot of random freeze ups and it wasn't because i was using too many applications, plus the video messaging was absolutely terrible from the beginning and never really could send/receive pics and such. All in all i was wondering if it would be a better upgrade or would i be dealing with these kinds of issues still? I am considering the Samsung Moment because if its anything like the Droid by Motorola then I'm sold... but that's a question no one seems to be able to know.

i.m.o. the tp2 is a better device hands down. theres pros & cons like any other thing in the world. i thought i did enough research b4 jumping into the world of a windows mobile based device in the first place with tp1 & never seen info on the fact it didnt come out of the box user friendly & required massive amounts of tweaks .. but is what it is & i like the fact i can change sht up on looks n all. just wish it rran smoother & faster. but tp2 is def better

the real downside is, winMO is done... there will be no more offical anything as far as releases go...6.5 is over(minus maybe a new handset or 2) as far as their concerned... but they want win phone 7...

so its like buying a a car that runs on leaded gas right b4 the switch to unleaded gas

I've been on my TP2 for about 6 months and there really isn't anything that I miss about my TP1. Battery life was horrible. Camera was horrible. Overheating was horrible. Pretty much just a horrible phone when I compare it to what I have now. TP2 does have it's quirks out of the box but they're all small and can be dealt with or ignored rather easily.

You can hold your finger/stylus on the link for about a second, but not long enough for the select text prompt to come up. Should do the trick.

Re: how much better is the TP2

I just upgraded from a TP1 to a TP2 (was looking at the Moment and Hero but sprint wanted me to upgrade my data plan -which I'm glad I decided not to do) and I must say that I am VERY happy with my TP2.
Compared to the original TP, the screen besides being larger is much brighter. I love the keyboard, especially the softer touch keys which work better with my large fingers.
Overall, it seems much more responsive and most importantly, battery life is significantly better than on the TP. I used to carry a spare battery with my TP and switch out halfway through the day. The TP2 will give me at least 2 days of solid use.
And fiannly, there is still a market out there for your TP. Buy the TP2 and subsidize your purchase by selling your TP1.

Why didn't I go with the Moment Hero or EVO? I don't think its right for Sprint to charge a premium to use the Android phones. Why pay 10 to 30.00 more a month for an "everything package" when I already have an unlimited data plan. and finally, I have a lot of $ in Winmo programs so I really couldn't justify going with another platform and then have to spend more money replacing my programs that I use frequently.

I'm surprised you've having that problem on a TP2. The TP was horrible in that regard, but even in Outlook, which used to be the worst, I don't think I've ever mis-clicked when I meant to scroll with the TP2. There are definite improvements there. Try scrolling more with the pad of your finger instead of the tip. Then use the tip of your finger for selecting.

I got this tip from someone else here but you can use the keyboard controller to map vol-up/vol-down to up/down arrows in Outlook, for example, so you can quickly scroll around in your message list and delete specific items using the left softkey when the message is selected. Also, you can quickly bring up the context menu for a message (to delete, reply, forward, move, etc.) by clicking the message icon on the far left side of the screen within the message list (as opposed to tapping the subject text, which opens the message). I don't recall the TP being able to do that. Clearly that's an outlook thing and not a hardware thing, but it is something I noticed with the TP2 that I don't remember with the TP. Maybe I just never RTFM or tried it, though.

TP vs TP2 seems "meh" on paper but in reality it's like night and day to me. It's just a massive improvement. And the TP2 keyboard FTW.

I agree with you on the lack of a camera flash...I also miss the "flashlight" as well.
