fix tp2 meid before sending to htc for repair

ok this is a sensitive question, but here we go.

i have a tp2 that was flashed to metro by a guy on craigslist, come to find out he messed up my esn & metro thinks it a samsung.

i cant use the phone without an ear piece, because the mic on the handset has gone out, so i called HTC to get it repaired ( free of charge ).

i was in the process of restoring to original rom & radio to the ones on the label of the box when i noticed that the meid's on the phone & box didn't match.

I've tried contacting the guy who flashed it & cant get in touch with him, plus no one else I've asked can fix it.
would it be in my best interest to restore the original software & send it in with the meid as is, or should i keep searching for some one to repair it & take a chance on having to pay out the ass to get it fixed.

Re: fix tp2 meid before sending to htc for repair

Your best bet is to try and fix it yourself. Either way, changing ESNs is a felony from what I gather, and it's definitely not to be discussed on this forum.

i highly doubt their gonna open up your epst..

their gonna take your battery out and look at your esn or scan it,thats all..

the internal programming shouldnt matter... its not like when a rom shows up on boot... theyd have no way of knowing unless they open the provising on your device id think

Re: fix tp2 meid before sending to htc for repair

im hoping they dont check it, but i read the warranty disclaimer, & changing the meid DOES void it, not to mention its illeagal. I dont have $105 for cdma workshop & really not trying to get into a conversation about " making changes", but if any one on here is in the L.A. area the help would be appreciated.

i really don't want to chance it by just sending it in , but it looks like im running out of options. i could really use some good advice on solving this one.

Re: fix tp2 meid before sending to htc for repair

IT kinda depends on your state law..the federal law only prohibits cloning..but you are not the one who did the cloning..so it does not effect you but what does effect you is once you know a device has been cloned it is illegal to use it. With the exception that the manufacturer can change the ESN...I think it also extends to the carrier so they may be able to fix it as well if they offer repair services.

Now as for fixing it yourself, it depends on your state law..Some just disallow cloning only, but don't address repairing the esn. Others forbid touching the ESN altogether.

If you have no options above, your choice would be to take it to the police and have them fix it.

Re: fix tp2 meid before sending to htc for repair

i finally caught up with the guy that did the phone, he told me how to fix it, without cdma workshop. i must say it was extremely easy & saved me a few bucks, so if anyone ever has this problem, feel free to pm me for the solution. I'd hate to get kicked off for the info.
