It SUCKS. NOTHING will replace the accuracy and speed of a physical keyboard. A Evo with a keyboard would be more than manageable. I used to carry the Sharp Wizard in my front pocket of my pants/jeans/shorts EVERYWHERE I went and I NEVER had and issue. 6.4 x 3.2 x 0.8 inches, 1 pound http://www.amazon.com/Sharp-OZ-770PC.../dp/B00005AY6H http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51HZ8RY6ZJL.jpg |
Re: why have you not switch to andriod? curious...
As soon as they have a working media player that plays .avi files (coreplayer I am talking to you) I will have no reason to stay on windows mobile. I HATE converting files and most of my videos are .avi. Other than that, nothing is holding me back.

Want to stay on Sprint (corporate deal, up for new contract soon....) so I've been waiting for a better phone than the TP2. Apparently, I'm not alone...... Evo looks like it could be the straw that ....

Being able to customize my UI to my liking is the only reason I'm still on WinMo...
That and the fact that my contract isn't up for renewal until June 2011 angry9: |

Re: why have you not switch to andriod? curious...
In life, I have never found being the "first in" or the "last out" to be good policy. Too early for Android, IMO
|
Re: why have you not switch to andriod? curious...
While I have to admit that the Android interface is a little smoother and faster, I still won't buy an Android phone as my main line (maybe some day as a second phone...)
Why? Because Android doesn't have nearly the same level of customization or depth that WinMo has. And when I say "customization" I'm not talking about being able to move a couple of widgets around the Android screen. I'm talking about regedits, customs UIs, full access to the file system, etc... With WinMo, if you don't like the virtual keyboard popping up all the time? Boom, regedit to kill it. Don't like the stock taskbar? Install one of the many floating around in this forum alone. Don't like the UI? Turn off Sense, and use Titanium, SPB, or one of the many others available for WinMo. Hate having to set your phone back up from scratch after a reset? Sashimi or UC to the rescue... the list goes on and on. Android can't do all of this Point is, WinMo is COMPLETELY customizable. Android, while many try to claim it is, is not as "hackable" as WinMo - even when you're rooted As previously mentioned, Android is a little smoother and faster, but a large part of the speed and smoothness of Android is due to the fact that Android phones are newer and running faster hardware (like 1GHz snapdragons, for example) which makes them seem faster. WP7 should be just as fast once it's released and running similar hardware That being said, some people like how Android is just clean and easy to use (why do you think half of all Android users are teenagers  ). They're not the type of people (like many of us here at PPCG) that like to tweak and hack and customize until our little heart is content. I'm not trying to bash Android users here. On the contrary; For them the Android works perfectly and I'm very happy they found a phone they like. This isn't a war where only one OS can be right and the rest are wrong... It all depends on what you want from your phone But I prefer a level of depth and customization that Android just simply doesn't offer |
Re: why have you not switch to andriod? curious...
Because the Evo has not been released yet.
|
Re: why have you not switch to andriod? curious...
look android is not "As" hackable but you can change a lot of the things you mentions, you can change how it looks, and the taskbar, you can stop the keyboard from poppin up or choose dozens of different ones. Android really just works, and now that it's gonna have a great fone to work on will be even better. I understand people are gonna have their preferences but it's really the fact that android is new and will take sum WM users to get use to is, when M$ dies, cuz the way it's headed wit win7 series, it seems like a step back to me...but it's not as bad as some make it sound...like i've said the only reason I have come back to wm was the fact that i just loved my tp2

Re: why have you not switch to andriod? curious...
To me android is like an iphat phone.. bunch of little widgets... gets on my nerves
|
Re: why have you not switch to andriod? curious...
Haven't use Android yet, but out of hand, I can say the following make it still-born to me:
Hard keyboard and SERO. |
Re: why have you not switch to andriod? curious...
lol yea...im just waiting for a good sliding KB with a big screen....an official android TP2 would actually be perfect with a 1ghz pross and dual LED flash....that be so F++++ perfect!!!...actualy wtf am i saying....and EVO with a nice keyboard!...now were talking...its gona suck having to let winmo go but idk, i actually havent gave up on 7 yet..you never know, maybe we can find a way to support traditional mulitasking...like i dont think its impossible...maybe its there, just blocked or hidden...if not then deff gona go to android...no way i can ever go back to owning a dumbphone...im exited for the future

Re: why have you not switch to andriod? curious...
I havnt switched because im waiting for the evo because my contract is up
|
Re: why have you not switch to andriod? curious...
I waiting to SEE the Evo first ... I don't know if I really like Android, though. :(
|
Re: why have you not switch to andriod? curious...
Because I'm a telus user and they are not getting all the good android phones! I personally hate the motorola droid for its looks...its SO boxy...
|
Re: why have you not switch to andriod? curious...
I tried the droid, and liked it(alot). but it did feel boxy and the kb was small. the os and speed was nice and with verizon, i got 4 bars everywere. But could not see paying 140.00 a month for it! my tp2 is not that bad after all:headbang:

Re: why have you not switch to andriod? curious...
.okay I have SERO also but I am trying to figure out why cant I update while on SERO?
Im seeing alot of you saying SERO is the reason that the switch wasnt made Please give me some feedback on this. thanks |
Re: why have you not switch to andriod? curious...
I really like Android, but Mighty's ROMs are keeping me on WinMo, I just love em, but the Hero with Rosie/Espresso is extremely amazing, just hate how it doesn't have a keyboard, but I love how you can speak into the mic and it will understand what you're saying and write out the entire text for you, so amazing!

Re: why have you not switch to andriod? curious...
Well for me personally, I have two lines that have been out of contract since january and honestly I was gonna wait and see how wm7 would turn out but the specs of the evo totally gave me a hard on. I am definitely pro-slide out keyboard but with the evo having an 8mp camera on the back and a 1.3mp in the front, 1ghz snapdragon, able to shoot video in 720p and a 4.3" screen? Sorry but I can't turn my back on those kind of specs at all even if I hate not having a keyboard.

Re: why have you not switch to andriod? curious...
I havent switched because i like windows mobile. tried android but dont care for it. Best believe i'll be picking up an Evo, but windows mobile may somehow find its way to the phone ;)

Sero users, like me too, aren't allowed to switch to Android phones. Sprint doesn't allow :( It's just the plain simple fact of it I've considered EVO but I don't know 30 bucks a month is just too hard to beat |
Re: why have you not switch to andriod? curious...
because I wanted a nearly full desktop experience with a phone. Windows Mobile is really the only one that comes close to it (even though I'm an Ubuntu user). Iphones are too basic (even the multitasking coming up doesn't come close to actually replicating what would be a desktop environ) and neither does android or webos (though webos is actually my current favorite, I just hate the hardware). I was originally aiming for Maemo, but the n900 is only 3g on tmobile. I may switch to the Evo when reviews hit for it, but if Nokia announces a sprint 4g/3g or att 3g capable device then I'll be on that instead, as Maemo seems to be the only OS aimed at what I'm actually looking for.

Re: why have you not switch to andriod? curious...
my plan is up in January, so i figured then would b a good time to upgrade to Windows Mobile 7, but since its Windows Phone 7, i will b switching 2 android in January unless WP7 is great AND has a huge hacking scene
|
Re: why have you not switch to andriod? curious...
because Android isn't fully usable on the TP2 yet! WHEN or should I say IF this happens, I will probably move my TP2 to Android...I am getting a bit nervous that now that MS is dropping WinMo, the TP2 Android port may start to slowly loose support of the developers

I'm just glad my tp2 can do it all. not the fastest, but close to the most functional. apps easy to install, outlook sync a breeze(calendar works perfect), and my facebook app just works :P. thats about the bulk of my useage. |
