I've cabbed up oruam's utility for those that would like it.

Quote:

The CAB (as of 1.0d) should install everything you need to get going, including copying the Msm7kClockLib DLL to the Windows path.

The installer will ask whether you want to install to the Device or Storage Card; it does not matter which you choose as only support files are installed to that location. "Storage Card" is recommended, just to keep everything together and tidy.

* This CAB forces installation of certain files to \Storage Card\Program Files\SetCpuSpeed for safety purposes. If your locale doesn't use \Storage Card for the SD path or you don't have an SD card this CAB won't work for you.

* Use the SetCpuSpeed shortcut in your start menu to set clock speeds and modify the polling interval. (requires MortScript)

* Modify the polling interval (CheckTime) with caution. If you're experiencing SODs you can attempt to lower it from the default (200), but beware that this comes with a price of increased CPU usage of the SetCpuSpeed process. So far those with SOD issues have had some luck with a value of 150.

If your device fails to boot due to an unstable clock speed, pull the SD card and soft-reset. After WM boots completely (and you get the error message about SetClockSpeed not being found) reinsert the SD card, run the SetCpuSpeed shortcut from the start menu and choose a lower speed.

Huge thanks to oruam and everyone else working to make this stable, the script was great but now that we have a native process it's even better! Without the MortScript overhead we no longer have the 1-2% constant CPU utilization and can squeeze even a few more MHz out of our Msm7k's. :D

Uninstallation/Upgrade procedure:

Killing oruam's process causes the device to hang, and because the uninstaller kills the process to remove the executable...well, you see the problem I'm sure. :p
To easily uninstall (or upgrade) the CAB without problems perform these steps in order:

1) Pull SD card
2) Soft-reset
3) After WM/Sense/etc has loaded completely (and you get the error message about the shortcut target SetCpuSpeed.exe not being found), insert the SD again
4) Uninstall or install new version of CAB

-----------------------------

* SetCpuSpeed-1.0d.cab
- Installs the required DLL (from Netripper's Msm7kCpuSpeed v2) to \Windows
- Queries user for initial settings and starts oruam's utility after installation, no soft-reset needed

* SetCpuSpeed-1.0c.cab
- Added polling interval (CheckTime) setting to GUI

Re: Overclock TP2 in WM?

Looking at all the threads seems to me the new program is associated with some instability and SODs. I tried to push the now old script above 729 and could not do it... hangs on the Sense initiation, so it is 729 for me. Now stable 2-3 days.

For what it's worth, oruam's app has been running superbly on my Verizon TP2 for the last 12 hours, even after an 8 hour suspend. I guess time will tell. :)

open up Netrippers App (dont change anything and exit after you check your mhz)

guessing old one needs uninstalled

Re: Overclock TP2 in WM?

Yeah, use the upgrade instructions in my post above.

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.p...&postcount=121

You don't have to manually uninstall the old one unless for some reason it doesn't ask you to when you install the new one.

Edit: CAB was just upadated to 1.0d at the link above. It now automatically installs the required DLL, so should be more foolproof and such. :)

Re: Overclock TP2 in WM?

This appears to be running smoothly on my TP2 but I do have a few questions if anyone knows;

When I open the app it usually shows CPU speed at 528mhz but when I check the regestry performance level is set to 730mhz. A soft reset will bring the app back to 730mhz but it is back down after a bit. I don't know what to use to benchmark, what speed would it be running, 528 the app shows or 730 the reg shows?

Also is anyone experiencing memery leaks? I have been watching clostly and it seems that after some time I loose a few mb but again I don't know how to accurately test...

Hi aguenter322,

Is your cab supposed to install a shortcut to SetCpuSpeed.exe in \Windows\Startup? Version 1.0d doesn't seem to include that. After I created the shortcut manually on my phone, everything seems to be working okay. Thanks!

Anyone experiencing lockups sliding the keyboard out, running @ 768? anyone fixed issue for booting Android, won't boot unless CPU is running at 528... i don't have that option. anyone?

When I first uploaded 1.0d I had forgotten to add the shortcut to the CAB again, but I fixed it immediately after (file still had 0 views) and I tested the new version. I'll have to check again, thanks.

Edit: Just looked in the CAB and I see the shortcut there. Can anyone confirm that the current 1.0d makes the StartUp shortcut? Thanks.

Are you using the OC_Auto script or my cab?

The registry value tells you nothing about the actual processor speed at any given time, only Netripper's app will.

If you're using my cab check your task manager (view processes, not applications) and let me know if SetCpuSpeed.exe is still listed when your CPU no longer runs at the higher speed as reported by Msm7kCpuSpeed. If you're using the script check for MortScript.exe (assuming you don't have more than one persistent MortScript running all the time).

If you suspect that there is a memory leak in SetCpuSpeed.exe you can check for this in the same place. Look at it in the task manager and note the amount of memory it is using when your device boots, then check it later when you notice a decrease in memory and compare the two numbers.

If you're getting lockups at 768 doing anything then you're on the edge of what your CPU can comfortably handle and you really shouldn't be running at that speed. I'd recommend you drop to 748 or 729.

As far as I know booting Android at clock frequency other than stock is not supported yet.

Re: Overclock TP2 in WM?

i think i know what 4wheel is talking about. i noticed my tp2 wasnt OC'd anymore once so i went into the taskmanager/processes and SetCpuSpeed was no longer there... i clicked on the exe in file explorer and everything was fine after that...

i havent noticed any memory leak, mine always says 52k and never more than 1% of memory...

Re: Overclock TP2 in WM?

Good to know, that's what I assumed was happening to him.

Device goes into suspend, SetCpuSpeed catches it and throttles CPU, and then at some point before the device resumes and SetCpuSpeed bumps the clock speed back up the process crashes. If that happens, running SetCpuSpeed.exe from \Storage Card\Program Files\SetCpuSpeed is fine.

I really hope Netripper releases v3 soon or Oruam comes back with a new build of SetCpuSpeed...I really don't want to debug it myself. :p

Hmm, I wonder if the rom was running low on memory and auto closed a few apps including SetCpuSpeed...

Re: Overclock TP2 in WM?

Or that. Doesn't WM normally kill off applications before background processes though?

Ah, then I think I know what happened. I grabbed your 1.0d cab from xda-developers shortly after it appeared yesterday, and obviously got the pre-shortcut version. I saw one other person on xda had this issue, but you got him fixed up.

As the person who raised the question, I'm happy to confirm that the current 1.0d cab does indeed create the startup shortcut. Thanks for all your work on this!

thats exactly what seems to happen.. its not that big of a deal right now. restarting the process manually is fine for the time being... i can definitely tell the difference when it goes from 768 to 528 though lol.

Yeah, it's a world of difference isn't it! I'm updating some stuff in the CAB as we speak, I might write a script that runs every 10-30 seconds to check on SetCpuSpeed and restart it if it has crashed for the time being.

OC'ed to 710.4MHz with 528MHz on standby. Everything opens up faster and smoother than ever before. Morphgear and Nester works great. When tapping on Menu to open up the cookietab menu options there is no lag and the sliding animation is quick/smooth.

Nah, once every 30-60 seconds will be negligible.

Running great with v2 and cab. Would be nice if we could toggle on and off so I could run android. Would love if this turned into SetCPU! Save battery life and overclock!

I posted this over at the Developers site, but think it merits a warning:

Well, I was so happy that I had no problems with the scripts solution for several days until Sunday night when I was supposed to do my Sprite Backup, well it crashed and noiw Sense will not load even after removing the scripts. Looks like serious damage was done along the line.... does not seem to like the backup at high speed....

Interestingly, it was the home screen setting for Sense that was hosed. Not the system.

I'll try to trouble shoot this, but look like if you backup with Sprite, better do it at low speeds...

Installed this the other day and it locked up the phone. Couldn't run it at 710 so I tried 537 and wanted to work up from there. Still locked up the phone when it went into sleep mode. I've since uninstalled it and have had no problems.

Re: Overclock TP2 in WM?

quickdraw. Mine was doing the same thing and i overclocked mine to 710 and under clocked the sleep time while changing the polling to 150. My phone has been good. I also turned off the phone going into lock on standby and just lock it manually and so far so good.

I also noticed that using the S2U2 application locks up my phone (this was before the overclocking). I was wondering if anyone knew if their is a setting change that I need to do to prevent S2U2 locking up my phone when it goes into sleep. It didnt start doing this until mid June releases of NRG. I still like the old school ROMS so I am using the 21911 cookie versions and it locks up. Any help would be great thank you.

Did you slide out the keyboard before that happened?
Naw I have crashed Sense homescreen so many times I stopped counting.
If you install extra tabs, or a cabbed HTCmessaging version, or flip to landscape on the newer Sense versions ...
It likes to crash...
Check and delete worthless "application data" folder on mem card if it is there.
Sense likes to make that folder and throw temp data in thr that may conflict with homescreen.
If not, a soft reset always brings me back.
overclock speed did not matter.
I may try it without cookie home screen to see if it helps, But its just a guess.

I sent you a PM on this, I updated to your 1.0d cab and it runs in overclock but will SOD everytime on the first sleep. I have changed the settings in running and sleep and polling every way possible, no setting will prevent it from SOD.
I am running a stripped Titanium ROM so no Sense or S2U2 or anything that could cause issues with the app...
If I can provide more info let me know, until its better I can't use.

Do not set sleep (in Power/Backlight settings) for anything less than 2MINUTES!
Set to dim the screen 30sec.
try now.
It is not the cab. It is the overclock app.
EDIT:
If you still have problems for sleep, try this cab:

Re: Overclock TP2 in WM?

I originally had dim set to 1min and sleep at 2min. SOD every time

So I changed to dim at 30sec and sleep at 3min. SOD again

Changed again to dim at 30 and sleep at 5min. SOD each time

I understand the cab is script to run the app. The app needs more work. I'm gratefull to be able to test! and hope to be able to use as stable some day!!

EDIT: I wil try the cab you posted.

No major folder or name changes, just some power settings
