Re: Overclock TP2 in WM?

Is it a requirement to be running a 6.5 or 6.5.x ROM in order to get this working?

Ive installed Mortscript, installed the Auto 4.2 cab and installed netrippers overclocking program...

Im personally running 6.1 and upon every restart when i try to get this to work I get an error saying something like this...

"Error:

Ive searched and looked through threads and either im blind or im the only one seeming to have this issue...

well I know for a FACT that you don't have to have Energy. As I am using this with my own personally Cooked ROM. However, I am running it on 6.5.5, So it MIGHT be a 6.5+ type of deal. Just don't quote me on that, as I am not sure and have only tested this on WMv6.5.5

Good luck though. Worst case scenario, you may want to upgrade to 6.5 (or better).

Trust me, with this overclocker, the 6.5 (or better) will run SO much faster then you could even imagine. You won't miss the speed of 6.1 at all.

You lucky dog! With 4.2 was able to get 729, with 4.21 I can get 748. Weird. No complaints though, awesome!!

806 is my final stop.

Anyone have any thoughts on battery usage? Mine seems to eat less when dormant, but make a call or do anything else and it seems to gobble the juice faster

There are lots of battery saving cabs around but I find certain roms will always eat more battery, and in my case I put up with it because of speed, but I change rom every week :)

I've gotten there but it's not stable for more than a few mins lol.

My battery has been tweaked for about 6 months. When I first got it it would lose 50% in 24 hrs with no calls or anything.

Recently I would only lose about 10% a day with about an hours use.

This seems to be different after the overclocking

FINAL: My 2 cents on OC, NO lockups!! 1st time ever...
1. Get & run the v2 cab from the here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=725290 at the bottom of the thread click on v2 HERE
2. Get & run the setcpuspeed 1d cab: do the settings to defaults & change later in registry with total commander regedit.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...81#post7330081 at the bottom click: SetCpuSpeed-1.0d.cab (138.8 KB, 249 views)

EASY BUTTON, (I’ve tried just about everything else, nothing keeps me stable & from locking until THIS)
Follow this post to the tee, except... this:
PerfomanceLevel = 35
Change to 37 (710) for start on TP2, as this was taken from a Blackstone, but works perfect on my TP2.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...60#post7498760

If you install setcpuspeed to storage card as advised above, you can pull out storage card & reboot to be able to regedit & lower your speed, otherwise, you'll have to reflash ROM. Some are able to do 40 & 41, depends on the silicone/manufacture of their CPU.

I think the only registry change you need to do is the Checktime, the speeds can be adjusted with setcpuspeed gui.

Yes for the "Checktime" the app only goes down to 50, so I made two more choices: 20 & 30 in a easy cab for all.
This cab is for the "SetCpuSpeed1.0d" cab solution...

Also made the "phoneSleep" reg setting cab for SOD on calls, into a cab...
So far this cab is for the "SetCpuSpeed1.0d" cab solution... unless you need it for the "script" solutions..

Also delay startup in another cab.
This cab is for either solutions...

You can Install any of these cabs AFTER installation of either cab solutions...

The "SetCpuSpeed1.0d" cab is an app type solution, which in theory is supposed to be better than the early "Script" base solutions..
BUT it did not hold the setting solid enough for some users so that is why the "low" polling time is needed/used for them, as lowering gives less chance for the OS to reset speed & freeze at high overclock.

It is common consensus (almost) that the script based solutions run more solid/smoother for some, soo..
Of the "script" solutions, I recommend for TP2, the latest "OC_ Auto_v4.21.cab" here:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.p...&postcount=281
It has interface and simple to install/use.
All that is needed is make shure you have latest netripper Msm7k cab installed and of course mortscript.
For me it worked better than "SetCpuSpeed1.0d" cab, but with so many variables, each user will have different results.

EDIT:
FOR latest iwfratz OCT app, which has dynamic overclock,
GO HERE:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...&postcount=162

EDIT:
For latest "setcpuspeed 1d cab" and good info,
GO HERE:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.p...&postcount=375

EDIT:
THINGS TO LOOK FOR in speed limits:
look to see if the "Msm7kcpu" app blinks steady.
look to see if you can quikly swipe pictures in sense tab without lag.
look to see if unit freeze while using keyboard on texting or Opera posting.

Maxx134 08-11-2010 09:22 PM

Re: Overclock TP2 in WM?

The "Check Time" usually is not needed to touch if you can OC without issues.
Such a low setting is used for those were the processor would try to revert to default setting, resulting in freeze.
This setting helped me to OC 2 steps higher, but still highest unstable so I stepped it down to 748..

Re: Overclock TP2 in WM?

great job guys, yea.. for me a reg edit is sometimes easier than finding & running a cab, but probably not for most... thanks to all/ thanked all! this is like a new phone.. simply amazing!

Re: Overclock TP2 in WM?

Just thought I'd relay my experience:

Sprint TP2
Mightyrom 5/24
6.5 (Manilla version 2.5.20132227.0) with Sense enabled, OS Version 5.2.21889

Installed step by step as found in http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.p...&postcount=281 (I only installed OC_AUTO-4.21 and not the 4.2 cab)

Now running at 748 for 24 hours with zero SOD's or resets. Not even any glitches in WinMo or sense...wow, that's new.

Battery life seems similar.

Thanks for the great app!

EDIT: Forgot to mention, Sense slider is still a tad choppy, but everything else seems much snappier. Weather animations actually move fluidly!

sweet! was just about to figure out my next step!

After last night, I realized that checktime = polling time and 20-30 is waaaay too low, it seemed like I was burning battery by the second!

Re: Overclock TP2 in WM?

I don't know if anyone has had this problem... throughout the day the phone gets slower even at 787.2MHz and this makes sense... so I ran Ram Sweeper and then the phone froze with the backlight off and it would not come on. My phone has done this many times before (the black screen)... especially when it boot on when is installing a large file and the screen the screens goes black, it sometimes takes a bit before it comes back on but this time I had to reset the phone (the physical reset button w/ the stylus). Does Ram Sweeper or similar programs stop or kill something that the OC_auto is doing and therefore causing the phone to freeze?

Does it "Close running programs" ?

I noticed that when I ran memaid and it would crash/lockup if I had "close running programs", probably because it closes setcpuspeed.

Yes it was a necessary evil for the "SetCpuSpeed1.0d" cab solution, which in theory is supposed to be better than the early "Script" base solutions...
BUT...
it did not hold the setting solid enough for some users so that is why the polling time needed to be set low for them...

I am now on the latest Script solution, the "OC_ Auto_v4.21.cab" which for some reason hold the unit down better for me and I no longer need the 20 or 30 checkTime AND ALSO am not needing the SOD cab which sets the reg "phone on sleep" to zero, anymore.
Edit: I re-installed SOD cab Because of one occurance with freeze when Unplugging & plugging powercord while phone was sleeping...

SOOOoo for me I can't believe it but this Script base solution is working better for me..
I currently have the poll interval (a setting for this script cab) set to 200 but I may increase it..
Here is the link & encourage others to try both solutions and post your results:

Re: Overclock TP2 in WM?

HI everyone!! First of all tried msm7kcpu by itself, no good. Tried setcpuspeed 1.0d, no good. Then tried oc_auto_v4.2.cab and eureaka!!!!!!! Awesome!!! Been running great for about a week now. No sod, no hick ups, and fast 710 mhz (that's the fastest I can get it to go without sod). I'm runnin nrgy rom from Feb, winmo 6.5 sense 2.5. I really like the older version (6.5), don't much care for 6.5x....

Now the only problem I have is texting....only when I open up the keyboard and start to text, it freezes. It doesn't do it with the keyboard closed. Is anyone else having that problem? Thanks to everyone......

That's what I'm thinking... that Ram Sweeper closes what's overclocking the cpu and therefore causes the freeze... I've ran Ram Sweeper before without any problems... I'm just wondering if anyone knows for sure whether apps that free some ram mess up the overclocking.

Yes pressing the keyboard buttons somehow give more chance of freeze.
All you have to do in lower your "poll interval" ..
I have it set kinda low at 200, as the defaultt suggested is 1000.
lowering gives less chance for the OS to reset speed & freeze.

Also, since you say U like Energy rom, I suggest using latest Aug10 as it is faster & I tested it overclocks very well. You may be able to increase your speed to 730 in your case.

+1 on Energy, been burning his for months... currently on 23128 Aug10 cookie & am OC'd @ 748. I'm only able to get 748 on this TP2 by lowering check time to 12 (was freezing @ 20)!!

Riding the rocket!!

Good job on the above post Maxx on setcpuspeed vs the new script... thought I'd never change now that mine rocks... but may try the OC scripts after reading your post. THANKS (tk'd u)

* btw, the 23128 ROM above is amazing, it's not a test or beta, was taken from a product release & somehow ?? gives me an extra 20 megs of progRAM memory free!! Almost 80 meg!!

@ the guys asking about ramsweeper... if you use the setcpuspeed app,you need to add setcpuspeed.exe to the ram sweeper list located in the installation folder. this will keep ram sweeper from closing setcpuspeed. i dont this you have to do this for the OC_Auto Script. I hope that helps

Thanks for the numbers, I had been scared to poll at less then the 1000 that was suggested.... are u guys able to set a higher OC speed by decreasing the polling? I am stuck at 710- fast but envious of those that hit 800+....

Working ok I guess. I like that it's dynamic however now it seems to make my device speed up and slow down from second to second. Maybe I just need to play with the settings a little more.
