I'm NOT bashing Swype nor am I bashing the users who like it. I created this thread out of curiosity. I wanted to know why so many seemed to like using this in place of normal tapping or even the hardware KB. I wanted user opinions. See, I found I had a hard time with this app so I didn't understand what all the rave was about. IMO, I didn't like it. Coming from a user who recently had a Motorola Q9M, I am used to typing on a hardware KB. And even with the touchscreen, it just seemed a lot easier to tap the letters than to draw through them. Also, I did have some of the issues mentioned in earlier posts. For instance, having to backspace to make the contacts name pop up. I already have issues with incorrect contact names popping up, and that just made it worse. Having the other built-in keyboards vanishing, until I uninstalled Swype.

And what was this other typing interface app that some of you mention? I would be interested in trying it, just for the heck of it. I'm willing to try anything once.

And.... KABLAM! to the user who said they use this while driving. That's a BIG NONO! I'm not about to change the thread subject but, DON'T EVER do that.. or even think about texting or using apps while driving. A friend of mine got in a wreck 2 months ago just because some asshat was typing a txt message on his phone and rear ended him.

Now back to Swype.

Thank you all for your opinions and useful feedback. This was what I was looking for in the first place. No flames needed.

I'll drive and text all I want. I know my limitations. If some asshat hits me while he's texting, that's fine too. I need a new car anyways. That's what insurance is for. Don't tell us what we can and can't do, daddy. You're not supposed to talk on your cell phone either, you think that stops the cops in my area? Hell no.

Texting and driving is the same thing as a cop driving and using the laptop in his car at the same time to run plates.

Did you try the one I posted on page 2? No problems for me.

i tried it, not to shabby, but as i dont use T9 / auto correct / auto completion, its alot faster for me to either use the TP2 KYBD or the stock softkeyboard...

I actually wish FingerBoard would get updated... I really liked it when v2.1 first came out

i dont use T9 / auto correct / auto completion either and swype is much faster than tapping out letters on the stock keyboard or even the hard keyboard. I don't know, maybe you guys that don't like it are lacking coordination or something. Most people here should know where all the letters are on a qwerty keyboard so you should practically be able to spell words using swype without even looking at the keys.

WOW.

No wonder you see more & more fatalities lately with DBs like this on the road........

We had five kids killed in a head on crash with a tractor trailer on their HS graduation night here a few years ago. There had been a text sent from the drivers phone 15 seconds before the impact.

I'm sure that driver "knew their limitations" too.

Texting and driving is the same thing as a cop driving and using the laptop in his car at the same time to run plates.

I drink, text and drive all I want!!! I can handle my booze!! I agree with you!! :drunken:. Heck I can't even afford insurance anymore, but I text and drive too!!! But if I rear-end you because I am texting, don't worry, your insurance will get you a new car, and morphine for the pain you have in your neck and back. And some day you may be able to drive and text again. I will pray for you at the local bar, as I borrow my buddies car to get home. Who the hell cares that I no longer have a license, and if I get stopped again it will be my 6th time. I can multitask with the best of them!! :evil4:

Actually I don't drink, I found it interferes with my handling of my motorcycle. I am also guilty of texting while driving my truck. Here in Illinois it is illegal to text and drive. And for those who jump on the band wagon and say that law is wrong, they and most states have a back up law to cover their butts. It's called "Distractive Driving Law" simply put, it means it is against the law to drive while being distracted by something else. Oh maybe I should mention the above senerio is, or I guess I should say was a friend of mine. he ran a red light, and a semi plowed right into him. Funny thing was he was sober at the time, he had his wife and kids in the car, my car, and he never drinks and drives when they are with him. But he was texting his friends to meet up later that night. All 5 of them are now buried and long gone. Do I support your decision to text and drive, yep I do!! (Oh BTW police around here have to be trained to drive and use the laptop. They spend hours upon hours to make sure that there is no problems, or they just don't become cops.)

"now back to our regularly scheduled banter about Swype being good or bad." It makes my texting easier, driving, walking or just plain sitting down!! And to make it clear, 99.9% I send a text is while waiting for one of the millions of red lights to turn green!!!
