Email Download Issue

Has anyone experienced an issue with emails not downloading? A few weeks ago I went to download my emails and it failed to download all of them. I checked all my settings and what not and tried a few more times but it never downloaded everything and came up with a message saying all messages could not be downloaded after trying to download for awhile. I now have a new phone and the same issue is going on. Is it possible there is a corrupt email preventing it from downloading all older messages?
