Question Need Your Help...... (Verizon HTC TP2)

Hi Everyone ,

I just went through a complete exchange of my Verizon HTC TP2, where both the phone and the battery were replaced. I am having an issue where the phone is draining the battery very rapidly under very specific circumstances. With my first device, whenever I turned the phone off or pulled the battery, I would get about 6 hours of battery life on standby (no WiFi, no Push e-Mail, no Bluetooth, no background apps, good signal strength). This always happens for the first 2 or 3 cycles of the battery, and then miraculously the battery life is fine. The TP2 will then stay on standby for 2 or 3 days, and barely use 10% of the battery. So, Verizon sent me a new phone (and battery), and when I got them, everything seemed fine. I have been using the new phone now for about a week with great battery life, so yesterday morning I pulled the battery (as a test). Well, when I got back to my phone after work, the battery was again drained on standby after only around 8 hours (100% to 50% on extended battery). So, if you have a Verizon TP2, would you please try the following, and post your results back here:

Make sure you have a good battery charge before doing this (90 - 100 %)
1. Turn the phone off (hold the end-key down until it powers off)
2. Take the back off (don't forget to remove the stylus first)
3. Pull the battery out
4.. Wait for about 30 seconds
5. Put it back in
6. Re-assemble phone (put back on, replace stylus)
7. Turn it back on (hold the end-key until the splash screen shows)
8. Watch the battery life for several hours, and note if the consumption seems normal.

On two different phones, doing this causes the battery to rapidly discharge until it has cycled a few times. I can recreate this 100% by repeating these steps. It does seem to have improved with the new TP2, as it didn't happen for the first time until I pulled the battery.

Thanks in advance!

Rich S.

Re: Need Your Help...... (Verizon HTC TP2)

I'm not on Verizon but I do this pretty much every other day. I have spare batteries that I charge on a docking station and when mine gets low, I pop out the dead one and put in a fully charged battery. I run a custom Sprint 6.5 ROM. So I'd say your probably looking at something specifically within the Verizon ROM rather than the hardware itself.
