file explorer continuously working to display files by "type"

there seems to be a problem with the file explorer. i went to the windows folder and chose to organize it via type and it kept working and working for over 5-10mins and for these 5-10mins, none of the other buttons on screen worked either. so i got annoyed of waiting and exited the file explorer via the only way possible, the front hard keys. but exiting didn't really solve the problem. ending the file explorer via task manager hasn't solved it either because when i go back to the file explorer, it starts to work again on displaying the windows folder. the problem presists after a soft reset as well. any solutions besides just waiting on the file explorer to refresh itself automatically?
