Sprint's 6.5 forces you to use "HTC messaging" over "WM messaging". Is there a fix?

The new Sprint OEM 6.5 ROM forces you to use the "HTC messaging" text messages now when responding to a incoming text or when you hit "SEND MESSAGE" from within a address book contact.

I absolutely hate the "HTC messaging" style of text messages for 4 reasons:

#1 You cannot use "My Text" to insert pre-written text messages
#2 The soft button shows "BACK" where it shows "SEND" on the "WM messaging" style
#3 You cannot add names to the "TO FIELD"
#4 The "HTC messaging" never saves to draft or allows cut and paste.
(This is a MAJOR pain in the ass when everything you typed gets deleted when you hit the soft button "BACK" because your conditioned to hit the same soft button for "SEND" in the "WM messaging" style.

How can we make the "WM messaging" the default text format or even the only format for texting with the new stock Sprint 6.5 ROM ?????

Thank you.

The below is what I mean by "WM messaging" where you will see "SEND" and "MENU" at the bottom underneath the threaded texts.
The "MENU" below will allow you to insert "MY TEXTS".
Also, when composing new text messages in "WM Messaging" you can add multiple recipients by just typing out their names and all unsaved texts are automatically saved in "DRAFTS".
WM Messaging is MUCH BETTER than HTC Messaging.

The top left 2 (of 6) screens in the pic below show the "HTC messaging" screen. There is "BACK" and "MENU" at the bottom, BUT the "MENU" does NOT bring up "MY Texts"

Sounds like you are trying to get the classic Outlook/Inbox style SMS instead of the threaded SMS. I don't have a Touch Pro 2, but I would assume you would be able to do the same things that were done before with 6.1. There is a registry key that you can add or just install these programs to make the change for you:

http://freewareppc.com/communication/smstweaker.shtml

http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/0...ows-mobile-61/

I'm running a custom 6.5 rom for the Touch Pro and it works on it. Hopefully it'll work on yours too. Good luck!

I like the threaded view.
The one that allows you to use "My Texts", add recipients, has the "SEND" button in the right place, and saves to drafts.

the new sprint rom has htc disabled and mine is saving drafts, allowing cut and past and add recipents and the send button is in the bottom left, just click on all messages from the text tab and it takes you to wm messaging

Thank you for giving me the right "titles". :) Yes, I prefer the WM messaging to the HTC messaging.

Frankly, the ONLY thing I love about HTC software is:
#1 the favorites contacts
#2 program tabs on the home screen

That's it.

you can get the wm messaging by default by swapping out a manila file.

Yay! for Yay for Juggs. :)

Can you either post instructions on how to do this or a link to where the info can be found?
I have NEVER modded ANYTHING on a phone or computer before. This will be my 1st.
Thanks.

extract the manila fike feom the archive then using either resco exolorer or total commander copy the file to your windows directory...make sure sense is disabled first before copying to the file

Re: OEM 6.5 forces you to use "HTC messaging" over "WM messaging". Is there a fix?

OK. Here is a quick fix for being able to RESPOND to incoming texts with WM messaging. This adjustment to settings will allow a bubble to pop-up with the incoming text and when you hit "reply" it puts you into WM messaging.

Let me give it a shot
first a question do u have resco explorer or Total commander installed? If not install total commander ( i have posted it as an attachment to make it easy)
1) download the file posted by yay 4 juggs
2) extract the file somewhere ( like ur desktop )
3)copy the file (47dd6acd_manila) onto ur phone whatever way u prefer
4) go to settings from ur start menu then Today this will give the page stating "select a theme for ur device" on the bottom there is the Items tab click it
5)you should see a list of many things with check boxes next to them uncheck the box next to HTC Sense( this disable Sense ) then click ok
6) Now open the program Total commander that you had already insalled and navigate to the file u had copied over from ur computer to ur phone. click it then select move and move it to /windows
7) Reset phone
8) restart HTC sense by redoing steps 4 & 5 but this time making sure the check box next to HTC Sense is checked
9) click ok
10) viola your done!

dunno what exe file that is just download the cab i provided copy it over to ur phone and install it from there ( ie double click it and it will ask u if u want to install it in the main memory of storage card)

tt C6 03-20-2010 02:08 AM

Re: OEM 6.5 forces you to use "HTC messaging" over "WM messaging". Is there a fix?

OK Doc.
I downloaded both files to my storage card. Installed total commander on my device from the storage card. Tapped on Total Commander to install it. Opened TC and used it to move the file (47dd6acd_manila) that Yay For Juggs posted into the \Windows on my device.
Just so we're clear, Total Commander displayed the location as:
\Windows\*.*
and then I hit "MOVE".

Did I do this correctly?
Because, after doing everything in the instructions above, I do NOT see a change in HTC messaging over to MS Messaging.

In other words, when I go to "MY FAVORITES" and select a contact, and then select "SEND MESSAGE" I still get the HTC Messeging screen and not the MS Messaging screen. :(

Help.

Re: OEM 6.5 forces you to use "HTC messaging" over "WM messaging". Is there a fix?

I just posted this in the tweaks thread but i think its more fitting here since i sorta wanna do the same thing.

Does anyone have a cab that replaces the people tab with the 6.1 people/favorite tab.

In 6.5 you can only select one form of communication for a person but in 6.1 you had all the options. For instance when you choose a person from the 'contacts' button from programs.

tt C6 03-20-2010 09:04 PM

Re: OEM 6.5 forces you to use "HTC messaging" over "WM messaging". Is there a fix?

OK. I have 2 temporary "band aids" until someone can find a registry hack or cab to make MS messaging the ONLY text screen.

#1. Set "CONTACTS as a "quick tab" on the home screen because it will use MS messaging when you text from there. Do NOT use "PEOPLE"

#2 Set "TEXT" as another "quick tab" which will put you directly into the MS text version of your existing texts. Simply typing the name of the recipient you desire will bring up previous texts to them and just enter into old threaded texts to respond to them.

The 2 above are not a permanent fix, but a start to someone posts a permanent solution.

Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance.

Same here. Took the file, copied it to Windows on the phone, and nothing. Had HTC Sense disabled too, reset the phone, then re-enabled it.

The reason I wanted to do the Windows is that the HTC messaging is so slow, I get nothing out of it. I even wait until it UN-FREEZES. Piece of crap really. Go back to Mobile Shell, and have NO problems with it whatsoever.

Oh well. Probably going to flash back to 6.1.
