Try this cab. It disable the HTC Messenger and brings back the WM messenger. Sometimes there's some issues with it, like a stuck unread counter and things, but if you don't like it, just simply uninstall it to "re-enable" HTC Messenger.

Credit to Zenyee for this cab.

OK.
SMS-Chat is an independent chat program created by Vito Technologies.
All I want is to be able to quickly choose recipients from the start menu, but be able to insert "My Text" pre-written messages.
SMS-Chat allows insertion of pre-written messages, but still requires you to type in a name to select a recipient.

I want to be able to select a recipient using "My Favorites", but I want to be placed into WM messaging screen when I hit the "send message" button instead of being sent to the "HTC mesaging" screen.

I personally find both sms applications to be extremely faulty and always have. I have personally tested more sms apps that I care to remember and have to say that I have yet to find anything that can even hope to compare to the user friendly and well designed Vito SMS-Chat. There's just flat out no competition out there for it what so ever in my opinion. There are even registry mods out to have sms-chat stand in as your devices default sms programing even for HTC Sence UI..........if you'll give me a minute I will be more than happy to share links for both the download and registry settings for anyone who may be interested. Idunno. That's my two cents I guess. It's just that I have been scrolling through this forum for a few minutes and it seems like every three threads or so there's another one complaining about the crappy choices once thought to be our only options. Well there ya go. Take it or leave it I guess. Hope this helps someone out.

i actually use vito for mass msg only. The problem I have with it is that every time I use the app it erases the registry edit to turn off sms notifications:disgust:

I tried that.
But, I want to be able to quickly add recipients to texts and the "favorites" screen in Sense works really well.
There HAS to be a way to keep Sense and just default to MS messaging, right?

Ok guys, I did a decent amount of research and this is what I came up with............

Using SMS-Chat as default messaging - This tweak might be helpful for any one who has SMS-Chat installed and wanna use it as default messaging. Just make a small hack on your device and from now and so on whenever you tap the message box on today screen of PhonEx,for ex or on the messaging of Spb Mobile Shell or wherever messaging is based on,the SMS-Chat window will be opened instead.

Redirecting of Messaging to Vito SMS-Chat : You need to use a registry editor to perform this action. Please take note where you install the SMSCHAT Application.

Go to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:MSINBOX

Device : in the string "1" write "\Program Files\VITO\SMS-Chat\SMSChat.exe"

My Storage : in the string "1" write "\My Storage\Program Files\VITO\SMS-Chat\SMSChat.exe"

Storage Card : in the string "1" write "\Storage Card\Program Files\VITO\SMS-Chat\SMSChat.exe"

Please soft reset the Device after you have changed the registry.

Default string 1 is tmail.exe

Tweak for SPB Mobile Shell 3

You can tweak the SPB Mobile Shell so that when you press the SMS and it will link it to the VITO SMS chat

Go to HKLM\Software\Spb Software House 2\Spb Mobile Shell\Menu\Root\Messaging
Change the String in Text to the following depending on where you install the SMSChat into.

Device : in the string write "\Program Files\VITO\SMS-Chat\SMSChat.exe"

My Storage : in the string write "\My Storage\Program Files\VITO\SMS-Chat\SMSChat.exe"

Storage Card : in the string write "\Storage Card\Program Files\VITO\SMS-Chat\SMSChat.exe"

Please soft reset the Device after you have changed the registry.

Default String is Messaging

Now you don't need to map any hardkey for SMS-Chat bcoz whenever you tap the messaging it then links you to SMS-Chat.

Note : If you have outlook setup or any email acount in default messaging ( I never get my email access that way.) and don't want to use any standalone app for organizing and managing your email box instead, then not do this way otherwise you can't open your email causing default messaging has been closed,so not available there for you to access.

One more thing, when you edit the string please do not forget to put quotation mark (") at the start and in the end of that string.

Tested on my Omnia,QBus Rom-WM6.1 and works like a charm.

Hope this helps !

or

Here are cab installers to help everyone use SMS-Chat as default messaging without doing any reg hack above. The cabs do it for you.

Notes : The zip includes 2 cab files extension :

- MSINBOX to Vito SMS-Chat : install this to set yr sms-chat as default messaging.

- MSINBOX to TMAIL : have this installed if you want to go back to default messaging.

* Soft reset after installation.

resco contact manager working well for me, can i make the resco sms inbox as my default messaging?
Yep,you can. If you want to use the Sms program from Resco Contact Manager as the default,or even with contacts program fr Resco contact manager as well, then here's the Key you need to change:

Using registry editor to change these strings :

1./ Set sms program of Resco contact manager as default :

HKLM>Software>Microsoft>Shell>Rai>:MSINBOX. Change key labeled 1 to :RPhoneMan-sms

2./ set contacts program from Resco Contact Manager as default :

HKLM>Software>Microsoft>Shell>Rai>:MSCONTACTS. Change key labeled 1 to :RPMContacts

Hope this helps!!!!!!

I will post this in a new thread shortly after I post this.

that's a pretty long post for something pretty unrelated :P what we're trying to accomplish is using microsoft's built-in sms client over the manila sms client in sense when you push an incoming text.
that info is for VITO SMS-Chat, a 3rd party sms client

AND, when composing a text from "favorites", "contact cards", and "call history".

Basically, we want to make MS Messaging the "default text message screen" and avoid HTC messaging at all costs.

Mayby you goys can try that with some success...

Meanwhile, in my limited time I was able to disable the HTC by manipulating the manilaFull.xml file, but alas to no success yet because....
I made sum error when I got too trigger happy changing the xml file, and ended up also disabling links for "people menus" in contacts.
So anyway just pointing out another direction to try.

Following up to my post above. I have created a cab that will make this process easier. There were a couple mistakes in the "app.reg" file that I have corrected. So, here are the instructions to disable the HTC Messaging Client and enable the MS Messaging Client instead:

1) Uninstall any messaging related cabs (including the Zenyee or Static cabs)
2) Disable Sense
3) Use Total Commander to Delete the "ManilaFull.xml" in the "\Windows" folder
4) Install the attached cab that corresponds to your device (GSM or CDMA)
5) Soft Reset
6) Go to "HKLM\System\Inbox\ExternalAccounts"
Rename "SMS" to "SMS.htc"
7) Soft Reset
8) Install Arcsoft MMS software (go here if you need it)
9) Soft Reset
10) Enable Sense

Please let me know how it works for you guys!

I'd like to give credit to fone_fanatic, dagrim1, and xwpx520 for finding this information:cool:

FYI: There are 2 bugs present in this solution. 1)The manila messaging tab will not show the proper unread SMS count. 2)The LED light notification will not go off when you receive a new SMS. Now if somebody can figure out a working solution for either of these bugs then please let me know:cool:

I did the above EXACTLY how instructed.
No changes.:(
Still being forced into HTC messanger.

I want to be able to use the Sense 2.5 included in the official WM 6.5 ROM for the TP2 that Sprint just released. BUT, I want to always go into "Windows Mobile Messenger" and NEVER go into the "HTC Messenger".

So, I can select a contact from "my favorites, go into "WM messaging" and then use "My Texts" to insert a message. This is the method I used on 6.1 and was able to compose and send texts with only a few quick taps on the touch screen.

Can someone please help us find a solution?

Yes thats exactly what happened to me.
No cab installs of any kind worked, so I decided to hack the manilaFull xml file.

I would suggest anyone who likes and wants to stay on official new Sprint rom, to try the "Sprint Lovers" rom because it is basically the same but tweaked better and has the sprint tabs.
Also the cabs may work but I havent tried.

I know everybody always slams the HTC Messaging, but I use it & it works fine for me (NRG Dusk ROM)

The key for me is, I keep my inbox cleaned out. I see no reason to let old texts pile up & I would NEVER restore old texts after a ROM flash (I crack up every time I read some DB saying "I restored 4200 text messages & now my texting is sluggish & freezes up").

The HTC app does get sluggish as the texts build up, but I empty my inbox every morning & it works perfectly for both MMS & SMS.

ALL HTC TP2's are running HTC Messenger from the factory, in addition to WM Messenger.

TP2 did when new from Sprint with 6.1Even on the TP1 ran both.
The new Sprint 6.5 ROM just forces you to use HTC Messenger more often.

If you have not read the 1st post in this thread, go back and look at the pics I posted so you see what we're referring to as HTC Messenger and WM Messenger in this thread.

not that it is exactly the least involved solution to your problem...
but i use SSMAHO to assign whatever programs i want to almost any link sense.
i used it all the time with my tp1 and tp2 with 6.1 and so far it works like a charm with my stock 6.5 rom
i have my all msgs, newest msg and new msg links on my messages tab linked to sms-chat and it works great.
if i can find SSMAHO i will attah, otherwise do a search here or xda.

I was using my phone 100% stock with 6.1.
Then, I was using my phone 100% stock with Sprint's official 6.5 ROM.

Being forced by the new official ROM to use the HTC Messenger all the time is why I'm modding my phone for the 1st time.

All I want to do is this:
1. Use a "My Favorites" Screen to select a contact and choose "Send Message".
2. Insert my pre-written responses using a "My Texts" feature.
I do NOT want to use the keyboard at all when I send texts.

All of these after market programs people keep mentioning do NOT allow you to used "My Favorites" to choose a recipient. I do NOT want to type anything out. I want to simply tap my screen to select a recipient.

Also, WM messaging makes you type out the letters of a contact to add a recipient. I do NOT want to use the keyboard at all when I send texts. All I want to do is choose a favorite contact and choose a pre-written message.

All of the above was possible when the TP1 and TP2 came out of the box.
I want the same functionality, BUT I want to be able to use the new "my favorites" screen in Sense 2.5.

If you can't see the value in this simple concept, I can't help you man.

Maybe if you were running a company like I am, or even a sales professional, you'd get it.
Hell, even a school kid or employee with an active social life who can't be blatanly typing Mon-Fri could benefit from this.

the problem is that the most functional build of 2.5 for rhodium is 2012... unfortunately, the tweaks to disable htc messaging do not work in 2012. any rom not using 2012 isn't going to have the functionality of ones that do.
