Tethering: Why so many different "Fixes" ???
Since the WM 6.5 Sprint update was just released, I have seen no less than 3 different tethering "fixes" recommended.
Why so many seemingly different fixes? Why the need to have so many different fixes even made? Which one is the best one? For example, there is: The 25 KB Calkulin's WM 6.5 Tethering Fix.cab as referenced in the thread below. http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...ng#post1643062 There is the 85 KB ICS_and_WModem_Fix.cab as referenced in the following post: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.p...6&postcount=26 Then there is the 25 KB Mr. X and MightyMike Tethering Tracking Hotfix.cab implementation as referenced in the following post: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...08#post1522908 So once again, why the need to confuse so many people with so many different versions of what should really just be a single solitary cab that takes care of the problem in question (i.e. stealth tethering)? I use MightROM personally, so a tethering hack is already cooked into the ROM, but since I am on Sprint, I have decided to upgrade to the update, and like others, I think it would be prudent to reduce as much obfuscation as possible by reducing as many redundancies as possible. So, is there a consensus on what hack is the best one to go with yet, or any reason for having so many different implementations which may not all be equally effective? Re: Tethering: Why so many different "Fixes" ???
I tested PDAnet with 6.5 and it works just fine out of the box.

"Working" is one thing, going verifiably "stealth" whilst not being charged is an entirely different matter however.

Re: Tethering: Why so many different "Fixes" ???
There is more than just a registry patch going on here to do this. There is a service running in the background that resets your ICS back to Sprint's default. The cab disables the service and if memory serves me, it replaces the program too in addition to the registry changes that are required to enable to ICS.
I too would like to know what is different about the three versions, if anything. You can't go by size because one could be compressed and the other not. |

Use ICS_and_WModem_Fix.cab first, this will bring back the ICS icons in the start menu.
Then install Mr. X and MightyMike Tethering Tracking Hotfix.cab, this will replace your copy of ICS to one that cannot be tracked. |
