Re: Sprint 6.5 Update & Tethering?

I created this very simple cab to enable tethering creating 2 registry entries.

  • disable CMGuaridan
  • enable Sprint as a connection
that is it, you may have to install it twice in order for the CMGuaridan to work first, then the second time for the force Sprint connection to stay.

It stays after resetting and it still allows Bluetooth Pan

Thanks- when I looked at the cab I see it changes two out of the four "recommended" registry settings- do you have any idea what the other two do (i.e. maxcncon and deleting the isext.dll)?

No, but they are not needed apparently. This works fine with just the two registry entries.

1 - skip

skip

3. using a regedit program

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing]
Extension="" Delete the "isext.dll" entry

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing\settings]
ForceCellConnection="Sprint"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing]
MaxCMCon=0

[HKLM\Services\CMGuardian]
Flags = 4 (it's a DWORD Value. if it doesn't exist. you need to create it)

4 - soft reset
5 - Start the Internet Sharing application.
6 - Select Sprint under type of connection.
7 - Hit Connect In the Internet Sharing application.
8 - Connect to the Laptop/PC via USB
9 - Done. No other applications needs to run on the PC/Laptop.

Re: Sprint 6.5 Update & Tethering?

RSBROWN,

check out my dilemma to see if you can help. Thanks.

Installed the Sprint Stock 6.5 ROM (upgrading from Stock 6.1 ROM) and I have 2 issues. (1) I was able to USB tether via ICS and WModem Fix cab and wifi tether via HTC WifiSharing cab before (no registry edits) with no problem. After installing the update, I cannot tether with either. I don't want to use PdaNet because I've read it is not as consistent as the cabs. I live in a rural area where broadband is almost non-existent and was excited that the cab worked on 6.1. The ICS cab downloads and creates a Sprint option, but the PC will not connect to the network. After clicking connect, the status changes to "check usb cable" and just stays there. Nothing is wrong with the cable, because Active Sync works fine. I installed Mr. X Tethering Tracking Hotfix cab, and it didn't help. I installed Calkulin's Tethering Hotfix cab, and it didn't work either. I even downloaded Merlin (Marlin) registry editor & attempted my first registry edit following Boo Boo's instructions, and that didn't work. Someone please tell me what the problem could be. And, no, I don't get the 67 error. I have an active data connection, but the tethering just won't work. Should I reflash the 6.5 ROM to clear the cabs and registry edits (remove programs doesn't remove some of these cabs)?

(2) Problem on 6.1 and now 6.5. Seems I have a ghost text message. My Inbox folder path is showing 1 unread text message, though, there isn't one. Against my own will, I even cleared out my text folder (in, out, draft, sent & deleted), and it still shows. Any suggestions on this as well? Besides those two issues, I like the 6.5 update.

Re: Sprint 6.5 Update & Tethering?

Pooh434

I ended up hard resetting the phone (clear storage) after installing some of the other fixes and just created the cab I posted afterward instead. I just installed it twice because the CMGuaridan has to be modified first before it will allow the force sprint connection to take and that worked fine. The problem with the other cabs is that they installed a file and it seemed to cause problems with the 6.5 update and I still had to go back and make the registry edits myself.

There is a cab out to enable the old fix unread messages shortcut that used to be in the systems settings but I don't have it anymore. I think it was called "clear unread messages" cab.

Re: Sprint 6.5 Update & Tethering?

I have tried the first two cabs, and I tried boo boos way and nothing is working on wifi with WMwifirouter but usb is working. I can't uninstall or reinstall wmwifirouter, it keeps failing. Time to do a hard restart yet again.
