i been tethering quite a bit lately and have noticed the switch. usually i start out in EV but if i get a text and reply it goes to 1x. but after a short time it will switch back to EV.

Thats normal, sms messages are sent over the 1x channel

yeah i knew that but in the past it would stay at 1x (from EV to 1x when sms sent) and I would have to close the connection to reset back to EV. now i can just wait it out by minimizing internet activity (no pages loading, etc.).
