Re: Learn UC / Registry / XML Provisioning / CAB Editing {2010-03-15}

Can you tell us what you are experiencing? Are you getting an error in activesync? Does it just not take and appear to not be configured?

Is it possibly a policy issues from the server?

So far I’ve managed to get my Hotmail account, WiFi for home and office, companies server certificate, various applications, registry settings and cabs all installing from my XDA_UC folder. The only thing I’ve had no success with is setting up my corporate email with our Exchange server.

I’ve tried copying xml from here and various other threads as templates, substituting my settings, no joy. All the data gets correctly inserted into the Outlook account settings except for the very first value when setting up, "Email Address," which is blank. Using the xml files to create the accounts seems to prohibit me from editing them after, so I simple delete the Outlook account and recreate it with all the same info, including the email address and everything works fine.

I’m wondering if the issue is due to the fact that I’m using an email alias on the Exchange server as opposed to the standard user name.

I tried rapiconfig.exe which created a lengthy xml with an "EmailAddress" parameter in settings. That didn’t help either.

So I’m either missing something (possible) or doing something dumb (probable.) Any tips would be appreciated.

Re: Learn UC / Registry / XML Provisioning / CAB Editing {2010-03-15}

I have been trying to grasp this program. I have read here and on the XDA site as well. To make this work (XDA_UC) do I need to have SDConfig installed? I am trying to understand this and all the other guides seem to assume everyone knows how to use it already. I have downloaded the beta from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...47&postcount=2 What exactly do I need to have on the storage card in order to get this to work. Thanks for any help

Most setups of XDA_UC support both styles. I uctually use a mix. I have SDConfig for my core stuff and use XDA_UC for rom specefic stuff.

In short, no need to make a choice. Do both if you want.

Wirelessly posted (Opera/9.7 (WindowsMobile; PPC; Opera Mobi/35267; U; en; Presto/2.1.1))

I finally figured out some of this. I used the standalone version to run some trial tests. There r still a few things I haven't figured out yet...but most of those I just made cab files instead of try to figure out Mortscript. I haven't tested them yet tho.

Re: Learn UC / Registry / XML Provisioning / CAB Editing {2010-03-15}

Well surprisingly my email worked but a few of my other reg edits didn't work out. The finger keyboard cab I built for myself didn't work out either. Not quite sure what I did wrong there. my startmenu, tab order, pimbackup, quicklinks, texttone, alarm, screentextsize, not sure if my arcsoft reg edits took either but I had installed the cab anyway so it probably didn't matter.

Add...I think I have discovered why my reg edits didn't work. Some reason they all started with "Regedit4" and that is not correct. So I am going back and resaving them all. My Hotmail did not set up the way I prefer so I will have to dig into that some more.

Add...I am just about ready to hard reset. I hope all these reg backups work this time. I just got all my icons set again.

Well just about have all the settings I want. I donKt like the version of Hotmail I am forced to use when I set it up with the xml file. It works but not the version I like to use.

Make sure that your registry files are saved in Unicode. (You may have to edit them on your PC.) For whatever reason, registry files that are non-unicode are not processed.

If you are using Notepad, click the File -> Save As. Under encoding, make sure it says Unicode, and not ANSI.

Re: Learn UC / Registry / XML Provisioning / CAB Editing {2010-03-15}

Since the email settings are stored in a XML file is there a way to secure that file? I wouldn't want someone that finds my phone to have access to my Exchange login information. Is there a way to password protect the XML file - or something similar?

Thanks!
Brian

Best answer is to not save your password. It will still configure the settings and then prompt you when it initiates the first sync.
