Isnt the only time the phone will search for a gsm signal is when its not detecting a cdma signal anyway? Its not like its doing it the whole time, just when there arent any cdma towers.

Re: Coworker reports 7ma saving in CDMA only mode (better battery life??)

When I compared the registry changes before making the change from global to cdma only, the program that I was using found a bunch of registry changes but most are useless. I noticed these two and made a cab and applied these but it didn't work.

these values are after I changed to CDMA Only
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\PhoneNetSelMode]
"Option"=dword:00000005

Note: original value for this was 0

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL]
"IsGlobalMode"=dword:00000000

Note: original value for this was 1

Hope that helps someone, the problem is when you change from Global to CDMA I can't get that popup box to appear that shows changing networks.

Re: Coworker reports 7ma saving in CDMA only mode (better battery life??)

As someone above stated, it only attempts to use GSM when it can't pickup a CDMA signal.
Even when you are in CDMA only mode and it can't find coverage, it nags you to enable Global mode.
There is probably no difference in battery life unless your phone keeps losing the network.

That said, I have had some really weird stuff happen to my phone when in Global mode.
The time would randomly switch to GMT and make GPS show me in an ocean.
So from now on I keep it on CDMA only unless I am outside of the US.

I use this setting often. Every rom that I try, i make this adjustment.

It seems to help... or so I think.

It makes sense, as it doesnt search for two different types of signal, but just one.

ditto. ;b

actually it should be similar, and to maximize this concept; combined with setting to 1x only. that is if you don't do much evdo data, but email works just fine over 1x.

The drain rate was horrible yesterday morning, but now seems better than ever.
I also installed psShutXP, as suggested by another poster, and though I really like this little app, I cannot see any noticeable difference in discharge rates whether I use this or just the normal sleep mode.
what does G Watch do? and how do you turn it off?
