frozen program how to unfreeze?

I 've been using energy photon and the htc sense program keeps freezing up any programs out their I can use to crash it out and restart it? I tried memory maid and htc cleaner and they seem to make things worse.. also whats the name of the process? I assumed manila but it never lets me close it when i use task manager so I dunno just need some helpful hints beyond restarting the phone.
