SMS Notification Taskbar Icon Only No Popup

I know how to get rid of it all together. That's simple enough. The question I have is much trickier and I've tried searching for an answer, but keeping finding ways to just turn it out completely.

When I was first trying to get rid of the notification I came across a post where someone had found a way to get rid of the Pop-Up, but still have the icon in the Taskbar show up. Does anyone know how to recreate this behavior? TIA

If your going to be running a custom ROM, this should be already built in. If not running a custom ROM. Then use the cab posted here or the registry settings change noted.

Well yea, that's how you get rid of it entirely. However, I would like it to still should the SMS icon in the top taskbar, but not the Pop Up. Thanks though.

Just verified with two of my colleagues which have TP2s/stock ROMs and they are using SMSsentnotificationdisable cab on their devices and they get the icon on the taskbar.

I use the Disable cab and I get an icon in my notification area and not a pop-up, as well.

Really now? Well then, I will give it another try. Thanks everybody!

EDIT: Tried it out. I guess I should have said I'm on Mr. X's 6.5 ROM. I tried the CAB from the link above and it kept failing on the install. Tried a direct regedit and setting it to anything besides 0 (tried up to 9) gets rid of any notification whatsoever. Ah well, guess I can't have the best of both worlds quite yet. Thanks again!

so on an opposite note...does anyone know how to get rid of the taskbar notification...this is very annoying to me...any help or direction is appreciated...

Turns out I really couldn't install the CAB because the phone was going loco. I did a hard reset and installed this cab and instead of a HTC Style Popup I now get the old Windows style notification popup. Suggestions?
