Re: WM 7 running on TP2

wow, do you ever have something nice to say?
really, copy and paste will be there eventually. not that you will need it because everything will be integrated so you won't have to copy something from one spot to another, you will just have to click and it will integrate it.

phone 7 will be hacked, heck they already have a running phone 7 based on the emulator. and the zune hd has been hacked so it will happen.

I have no problems paying for something that works. If phone7 catches on, the apps will be cheap just like the iphone. I really don't see how android will be better. maybe not version 1, but phone7 will get there.

There can't be backwards compatibility when the code has changed. It was time for an update. give this site 3 months and there will be a 6.5 emulator.

It's not like there were anything nice to say about WP7. Without Copy/Paste, the only thing you can do is navigate with three things that WP7 recognizes and go to a few services that Microsoft approves of. I'm sure C&P will be there, at some point, because without them this thing is absolutely useless, unless the only thing you care about is crapbook and Xbox.

Re: WM 7 running on TP2

heres my opinion....
WP7 cant be reviewed AT ALL right now. nobody not even bill gates has used the final polished version. the only thing that anybody can really talk about right now is the ui, personally i dont like it. i prefer to have a home screen with a big clock and my appointments and then go into a menu to see something like that.

right now im using the droid and i love android, its faster and more stable than wm6.5 IMO. when wp7 comes out i will try it but for now im sticking with android android

remember no os is perfect and everyone is in titled to their own opinion. :D

It seems the more info I hear about WP7, the more I think it sucks. Going the gayphone route it seems. Android is looking better and better every day. The interface on WP7 is definately for iphoners. I don't like the way it looks. See, I like my phones with lots of info on the main screen. I don't like big fat icons that take up 1/4 of the screen. I also DONT need any of that Xbox crap. Hell, I don't even own one, why would I want all that mess? And what's with all this social networking bulls***? It seems they are focusing more and more on those dumb sites like gayspace and facebook. I could care less about those things. For half this nation, that social networking garbage is what many people spend 3/4 of the time on their phone doing, well, that and texting.

Hiding the file system and blocking view access to it? Again, another Icrap move. Another score for Android or ol WM6.1 . I HAVE to have file system access. I don't like something telling me where I can and can't go, or where I am REQUIRED to put my downloads and other stuff. I got a PPC phone because of WM. Because It functions like Win Xp PC. I got this so I could do more of this stuff on my phone, then have to resort to doing most of that on the PC. Restricting access is a BIG fail. Having to pay royalties for every 3rd part dev? Can't make your own cabs? It's sound more like a controlled dumbphone from 2005 than a smartphone. No multi-tasking? Again, another reason I got a PPC was so I could do this and this at the same time. You know, run a browser while a notepad is open, and while an email is being written... to use copy and paste. Oh? No C&P ? wtf. No backwards compatibility? Bad news man. Disappointing.

I really started enjoying Windows phones, until I hear what WP7 has in store. When Android first came out, it didn't look all that impressive..cool, but not enough for me to move because it ws still new. Now, Adroid is looking much better. When my contract is up in another year, I will either move to droid, or just keep tweakin my TP2 till it dies. WP7 is off my list. And no... WP7 on TP2 will NEVER happen. Nor could I care less about it happening.

I'm going to try to keep this simple and to the point, but I think you need to learn a little bit more about what WP7 is.

First, the WP7 interface is a gesture based interface, the blocks scroll up and down, you can have all your info at the top of the list and the app links, people or whatever at the end. You CAN move the tiles around, hide and show what ones you want. Don't want to see the Xbox hub, you can remove it.

Xbox crap... Don't even own one... Again Xbox Live isn't "XBox" you won't need an xbox to use XBox Live, or the "XBox" tile on WP7. It is a SERVICE to distribute games, keep track of fellow players, show gaming profiles, and accumulated Gamer scores. It is NOT XBox or XBox sync system or anything you think it is.

Gayspace and Facebook... Dude, you just sound like a tool. I'll admit I don't use any of these services, but wtf are you bitching about. It's additional feature targeted to the MILLIONS upon MILLION of people who do use them. Stop being full of yourself and think WP7 should be designed to meet just YOUR needs.

Hiding Filesystem - The filesystem or "AppStorage" is based on IsolatedStorage (used everywhere) and is a "Hidden" section of the storage area which requires specific permissions and only allows access to it's own space. Go read the WP7 section I have a post there explaining what it does. Other than that, what do you need access to? OS files? Are you even going to create applications for WP7? Do you know how to code? If not then why are you going to need access to the filesystem, please share.

Where I am REQUIRED to put my downloads and other stuff? Your REQUIRED to put your stuff on the phone. When you download something it'll be simply available to you. Who cares where the OS puts it, it'll be assigned to a Hub and you'll access it from there. Or wait, did you want your Word document to be part of the Zune Hub? Maybe your MP3 player will play the magical song!!!

Having to pay royalties for every 3rd part dev? Lol, in otherwords Piracy. Yes, you have to follow laws and actually PAY for the software you use and agree to use under the softwares TOU.

Can't make your own cabs? Please, tell me how YOU make cabs. How many cab files have YOU made. Besides, the replacement for cab's will be XAP files, which is essentially a zip file. You ever zip a folder? There you made a XAP so yea, you CAN make this.

Multi-Tasking - I PROMISE anything you can do with having Notepad and a Browser open at the same time in WM6.5 you can do in WP7 lol... Notepad and a Browser, dude the only thing this effects is stuff that runs in the background like GPS services, streaming music (Pandora will be supported) and polling services. Even then we aren't sure what's happening. There's been studies that the multi-tasking is more like Android than iPhone, meaning Apps are only shut down when resources are needed.

Copy & Paste - I'll agree with you here, but from what I've been hearing, the community uproar about it not having C&P made them decide to include it for the RTM release. We'll see. But if there isn't there is the Smart Linking, which hopefully developers can link into, it's still to early to know.

No Backward Compatibility - THANK GOD FOR THIS, don't shun it. So many crappy apps that ran like shit that werent ever updated, looked like crap etc... This is a godsend, like an App Refresh, besides it will draw alot more developers to use newer technology and give us better apps.

Anyways, keep bitching cause I enjoy reading posts from people who bitch when we just don't have enough info. All we have is a CTP build that anyone can tell is VERY incomplete.

seriously, how did this thread even get to six pages? the question was if wm7 will work on the touch pro 2. it was answered with the next two replies. as it is now, no. this is not a thread for people to say how good or bad wm7 or android is, there are other threads for that. stick to the subject, which was answered many posts ago.. so PLEASE CLOSE THIS THREAD as it is seriously off the original topic.

tom_codon is part of the team that brought WP7 to the HD2. He has openly stated there are only 4 devices at the moment that can run WP7 and the Touch Pro2 isn't one of them. He basicly said it's impossible.

Paraphrasing the very wise TMartin.. "why are we beating a dead dead dead horse???" (i know it's not what he said, but it was for comic relief, thus, allowable). Sorry TMartin.. :)

The Good - A Mod puts this thread out of it's misery.

The Bad - A Mod doesn't put this thread out of it's misery.

The Ugly - My dog. Damn that's an ugly pooch.
