Regarding lockdevice, I only used it for a short time a week or so ago and switched back to smartlock, so I'm not sure if I actually had a SOD while using it.

May I ask which WM build you are using?

Running latest MightyRom 6.5 build 21889

of course i would never use a stock rom either so that may have something to do with it.

just seems like if you are having problems stop using the software that is causing them.

I use lockdevice, which triggers the WM6.5 lock when I turn the screen off.

Manually locking the phone is a pain and another step.

all these replies and nobody bothered to suggest shaking the device. Haven't you all heard of the side-to-side accellerometer lock? I realized after a few times of shaking it in frustration that it was instantly working afterwards.
I used to use goodthings2life's cleanup... but sbp mobile shell fubared my os when I used it, now I run mostly stock everything from my last hard reset.

I know the SMS lag is painful... I had mine up to over 45sec mid-convo. I could tell I was recieving a text cause my text entry paused on screen, 10sec later I got the sound, another 10-20 I got top notification, 30-40sec elapse til I get my typing back... and if I was already talking to them, I got their message in thread over 1.5min after it all.
It's bloat in your SMS box. your phone, like it or not, is trying it's damnedest to sort and organize the messages in real time. Delete your history and it all becomes instant, I deleted over 13,000 text messages and it's like a new phone. Lets pray MyPhone doesnt put them back =

The lock programs are not causing the SODs. As for why, many people like their devices to lock automatically when they go to sleep. It prevents pocket/"butt" dialing and in the case of playing music, pocket/"butt" track play/pause/changing.

Anyhow, I changed the ROM up so it was using the OEMXIPKernel from the T-Mobile 1.91 ROM instead of then HTC 2.07 ROM and I've gone through a whole day without a SOD. So far, so good.

MyPhone should detect that you deleted them, and move them to your online archive. And yeah SMS lag is killer... I archive every few days just to keep the lag down...

Try VITO SMS, much faster than the outlook for SMS

Re: Sleep OF Death!

I just noticed something interesting. I had ran out of storage space the other day and my texts stopped coming in. After I freed up some space my missed texts started to slowly come in from the previous day. I was getting the SOD bad after that. I have been playing with the new Froyo Android build mostly out of frustration because of the SOD and a text I had not received came into Android. After that I went back to MS and I haven't had an SOD since.

I definitely think it was a memory / SMS issue causing my SOD problems.

I have been running MightyROM Full Force for over a month now and I think I have had 1 SOD. got to say that would be pretty solid in my book for a Great ROM with very few issues.

+1 on this. MR Full Force FTW!!!

The only SOD I had was when I was actually trying to get one for a testing idea. I let one SMS convo pile up with like 600 messages, closed the convo, closed the keyboard, pressed the "END" hardwre button, opened the keyboard, closed it again, then turned the screen off. SOD for sure...

I couldnt get it to SOD while plugged into the charger tho...

I love SOD threads...

This SOD problem is the most annoying $HIT EVER! I have to hard reset dam near everyday! When i get some extra $ im just leaving TP2 all together. IDK if it s HTC, SPrint, or just the dam touch pro series but whatever the hell it is i want out! I shouldnt have to flash ROMS and do all of this other extra things just for the phone to work on stock 6.5 ROM with NO EXTRA CABS INSTALLED. *sorry guys had to vent*

How many emails do you have on your phone? How many messages? I've found that keeping these to a minimum will fix SOD in some cases. And by minimum, I mean just a handful.

Hopefully you meant soft reset... a hard reset isn't required to clear SOD.

Thanks!

My wife and I both have a Sprint TP2, each with WinMo 6.5/Sense 2.5 stock, CoOkie's Home Tab, and no other real hardcore mods. Her phone SOD's a lot (today it happened 3 times within 5 hours, which was a new record), and mine has done it maybe 2 times total in the last 6 months. So I just read your post (above) and we're going to give this a shot! She usually keeps about 15 threads in her messaging, so I think this will be the ticket. I usually delete messages obsessively daily...and like I said, have no SOD problems...

I'm pre-thanking you now to trick it into working! :)

I have 2 emails on my TP2 but 1 account only gets a few emails a week. whereas the other email gets quite a few emails a day. Also my text messages stay clear for the most part but this SOD shit just keeps coming back. I havent had for the past few days hopefully it stays that way.

no HARD reset. Once the phone SOD's i soft reset but it just loads up to the lock screen and freezes there. I end up having to hard reset for the phone to work correctly again.

Some say certain custom ROMS will fix SOD. I can't speak to that, I'm on VZW, running Mr. X fixed VZW MR2 ROM, and it *did* fix SOD. Perhaps someone else can recommend a custom ROM for you.

Btw., no SOD problems until I loaded MR2 last night. I've had my TP2 since around last November, first with 6.1 then MR1, all stock.

Btw. guys, I tried sending myself a text message from elsewhere to see if it would wake, no luck. My next step is to do what someone else suggested, which is turn of the weather animation on the home page. I noticed after my last SOD-induced soft reset that it had lost several recent weather updates and was showing the weather information for six hours earlier in the afternoon.

For my phone its not a software problem but a hardware problem. I tried hard resetting, task29, different roms... I eventually got so pissed that I slammed it against the wall & it worked again! Id recommend w/ caution, but everytime my phone starts up w/ the SOD, I've got to hit the back of it a couple times & eventually it goes away

Dude, sorry I'm late coming back here - but wanted to tell you that after I had my wife delete all of her text threads (Inbox AND the 700, yes - seven hundred in Sent), she hasn't had an SOD.

So I'm pretty convinced that she (at least) was getting SOD'd from having too many texts.

Thanks again!

URGENT PROBLEM: Not Waking Up from Sleep

something has gone wrong with my HTC Touch Pro2, unlocked Verizon using a GoPhone simcard.

Everytime it goes to sleep it wont respond back, i have to do a soft reset to access the phone again. what's going on?

i have quite a bunch of apps installed
  • cleanRAM
  • Modaco noData
  • Enhanced D3D Driver
  • Opera Mobile 10
  • Total Commander
  • tnyynt SD TuneUp
  • Windows Marketplace
  • Bing
  • Google Maps
  • SRS WOW HD v1.5
  • Metric Imperial Converter
  • G-Alarm v1.5 (free)
  • numerous registry edits such as "Disclude" location for facebook image cache in TF3D, changing the startup verizon image to a custom GIF, Enable All camera modes
it only started happening today. today was the day i installed the following: Windows Marketplace, G-Alarm, Metric Imperial Converter & SRS WOW HD and i might have tweaked a couple of registry files such as "album source to disclude" for the TF3D display.

if possible, i'd like to avoid having to hard-reset, and try pinpoint a recent change i might have done.

i really appreciate the help, it's so freaking frustrating that it goes to sleep then i have to soft-reset just to make it work again.

If you did not install and setup srs wow properly the first time it can screw you phone up. Uninstall it and see what happens.

it is so unbelievably annoying. but i'll try see what app it was that caused this. either srs wow hd or the metric imperial converter i got from marketplace. should i install the srs wow hd on the device or can i put it on the storage card? any tips for that program will help, just so know if i did anything wrong

The WOW SRS sound driver does not work on the TP2. It worked great on the TP1, not on the TP2.

I concur about the SRS WOW driver, was doing some testing last week with it and kept getting SOD's until it was removed.

thanks for that, i google'd "htc keeps shutting off" and all the responses i got was hard-reset :\

and hmm, so no drivers work whatsoever for HTC TP2? i found two different SRS WOW HD drivers (v1.2 and v1.5 i believe), or at least they look different..but i haven't tried the former one. im guessing it will also cause problems.

but maybe it was a placebo effect if indeed the drivers didn't work, and i just felt that it was giving me better sound haha.

edit:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=710257
i guess the drivers DO indeed do what they are meant to do but it conflicts with HTC's audiobooster and TF3D..so the only fix to really use this driver is to install the ENERGY ROM or some sort of rom that doesn't incorporate TF3D?

Just kidding. Well kind of. Someone had mentioned in another thread to delete your texts and e-mails down to a manageable amount. That worked for my wife - she had 20 threads in her text inbox and 700 sent messages. She was SODing once every 3 hours. After deleting all of her Inbox and Sent texts, she hasn't SOD'd.

I wasn't having any DSoD issues until I changed a setting.

An S2U2 setting. I enabled screen rotation again and the issue came back. I put the setting back to ignore screen rotations, and the DSoD's stopped.

Not by any means an ABSOLUTE, but if others disable S2U2 from rotating and their issues are solved, maybe that's a start?

Re: Sleep OF Death!

There are other SOD threads... This is a hot mess...
For me it showed up randomly... I must have done 30 hard resets and hundreds of soft resets... I almost went to the sprint store and got a different phone all together. However, the problem was issued as soon as I got a replacement phone.
I tried it all... I blamed all my cabs... But when I finally started getting an SOD on a fresh hard reset with no cabs intalled... I knew it was time to give the AWESOME techs at the sprint service center a crack at it. Replaced.

Re: Sleep OF Death!

So basically, what we've learned so far is that HTC software writers left too many sammich crumbs in their notes and that SODs are a little like an alcoholic: Start a new program? I'll drink to that. Close a program? I'll drink to that. Update your weather? I'll drink to that. Have the temerity to turn my screen off while I'm working my butt off for you? I'll drink to that, too!

Anyway, some good news at least for me: After installing CHT 1.8.5 about a week ago, my SODs went bye-bye. So maybe there's hope for Lindsay Lohan after all.

Re: Sleep OF Death! solution?

I rarely encountered SOD over the passed one year!

My experience told me that SOD has NOTHING to do with phone itself, otherwise I would have regularly seen SODs no matter what rom I use.

I have used over 80 roms for my HTC Touch Pro2! my experience told you this:

SOD definitely has things to do with roms, only a few roms got me SOD once for a while, other roms never have SOD,not even once.

One member said deleting messages will probably push SOD away, but I don't quite agree this is solution, because I was using 6.5 Foundation v1.0 by Joe USer for almost a month, my phone log and SMS messages were clogged up (backup and restored from previous roms),but never a SOD thing happened.

I read all 8 pages of this post, doesnt seem there is final solution.

Last night I flashed WM6.5_21907_M2.5 by WildChild[WCX_RHODIUM_S2_UPDATED_APPS],surprisingly,right after flashing plus some applications installed and I kept the phone in the table for a while, what I found was black screen,no pushing any button could wake it up.

Today I am still keeping an eye on this rom for the chance of SOD,but it has not happened yet.

Feeling bored,I searched internet and found this post.

By the way, some good roms could be found here:

Tittle:
least battery drain roms so far, just my opinion
