sprint 5g cap on TP2?

I have seen some reports on sprint "capping" the internet after 5G of usage. Does this not apply on a tp2 or any WM phone for that matter, running wm wifi-router?

I'm using it on energyrom and have "6824550KB" of usage so far without any limitations. Downloads still going at 200-300 KBps with flashget.
:headbang:

Does the cap completly stop internet or just drop the speed? A few minutes ago it was stuck at 10-20kpbs.

Re: sprint 5g cap on TP2?

I don't think the data will stop if you go over. I remember someone says the 5 gig was over a 3 month average. So you could really go over a couple of months and still be under the 5 gig cap.

Hope that helps.

Yes they start charging the crap out of you for going over!!! Disconnect ASAP!

the data dosnt stop. but the charge is like $0.23 a kb

Re: sprint 5g cap on TP2?

Well maybe not. For tethering, its possible but not likely IMO. I go over 5 GB most of the time. Install the stealth cab and I think you will be fine.

I am using on average about 15-20 GB per month on two phones (plus my data card which is still under an old UNLIMITED plan). I never received any complain from Sprint or had any additional charges. I am also running data like crazy on Nextel (emails via WM Device) and I never hear them bitch around.

Sprint lets you do pretty much a lot with their network and as long you stay within their system well you are in luck. I guess Sprint would not tolerate my hunger for data if I would be roaming all the time.

I use one phone just as a radio and stream my favorite channels all the time. Sling Box is running as well quite happy on my phones and no issues from Sprint.

Not sure if Big Red or the Death Star would be so good about it.

But lets be honest, you get the Verizon coverage (voice and 1x) for a Sprint price and there is even a map for that !

Dont listen to this guy. just cause it works for him it may not for you. the cap thing has been a debate since like the year 2000 and everyone has the point of view or opinion on it. if you get caught just dont come crying here for sympathy cause you know the consequences

i use a lot, but i try not to get too crazy... approaching 5gb is bound to get noticed. it's funny when i check my account online and compare my data numbers to the rest of my family.

i think that 5g cap is for mifi cards, tethering, etc... i use more than 5g every month, used 11g last month, never been charged per kb...

ive been AVERAGING 6gigs a month since mogul days and have never been charged for going ofer this "cap".

WarChild 02-16-2010 10:58 AM

Re: sprint 5g cap on TP2?

I use 7-8 gig every month but what works for me doesn't guarantee it will work for you. Every Sprint contract states "Sprint reserves the right to limit throughput speeds or amount of data transferred and to deny, terminate, modify, or suspend service if usage exceeds 5GB per month in total or 300MB/month while off-network roaming. Check your subscriber agreement rights on Sprint.com." I have never heard of them charging you if your on an "unlimited" plan but they can cancel your account. Again I haven't ever seen them enforce any of this but it is always possible and if they do I would be the chopping block for sure as I have been with Sprint for over 10 years and have been over using data for almost all of that time.

Re: sprint 5g cap on TP2?

"Stealth tethering" isn't required for Sprint. You can't really stealth it anyway, it all shows up as data over the phone. Now if they actually look at what you're doing - it'll be obvious you're tethering.

They won't do anything about it though. I regularly go over 5GB to no ill effect. Sprint treats me well. As long as you're not abusing their network too terribly, they tend to let it slide.

Re: sprint 5g cap on TP2?

I always wondered why ppl call it stealth tethering.
I see the data meter big as life on my bill.
What are we hiding?
ppl deserve to get busted if they abuse the network. I mean cmon, if you are doing 15-20+ gb a month shouldn't you be getting out of your Mom's bed & get your own place with net connection?!
& size does matter so get a screen bigger than 3.6 inch bedwetters!

Anyhow, as for pron on the TP2, works great for me streaming in from brazzers.:D

There's a 5 gb/month cap in your contract. They have the right to charge you for data used beyond that, or to terminate your contract (or both!). You agreed to that when you signed your contract.

Even the aircards and paid tethering plans have this limit. It's the same on VZW. I laugh when I see people using VZW aircards as their primary home broadband because I know it's only a matter of time before big red bends them over.

you are no more likely to get shafted by VZ than you are by Sprint.

I have never heard of anyone being charged by either company at this time.

Re: sprint 5g cap on TP2?

I have been going over 5gb easily every months for years now. The 5gb is limited to data cards and PAM.

If you contact sprint and ask them about tethering without PAM and their answer would be impossible without the plan. Similar to text messaging from Canada.

I think the stealth cab does not hide your data usage but hides the fact that you are tethering.

Also, even if you get to the point for whatever reason, most likely they would give you a warning. I mean sprint is loosing customers and fast and no reason to loose more customers for stupid reasons. That said I have not heard 1 case of anyone getting in trouble for going over 5gb.

Data is data. Its not limited to anything. When someone says 5 gig limit on data it means 5 gig limit on data. I think it is well established now that no one has heard of anyone getting in trouble for going over.

CW, i think you just need to scan a Sprint plan pamphlet from a store or a copy of a contract to make these people who obviously don't pay attention to what they sign believe you, LOL. IT IS SPRINTS POLICY ON THE CONTRACT, subject closed. Whether they enforce it or not is at their discretion, and believe me, i know for a fact 100% they look at these forums, so all you people who are bragging about your data usage, i'm gonna laugh all the way home when you start whining in the forums cuz you got a crazy bill cuz sprint started enforcing it's own rules, LOL, cuz i know you will.

Re: sprint 5g cap on TP2?

Wow @ some of the responses on here. Look I know the data cap debate has been going on for sometime but chastising someone because they downloadeded a lot more than the TOA permits does not entitle you to make siren noises and shout "pull over it's the effin data police".

We all come here downloading these awesome cabs that mods have posted and use them to convert our phones into routers and try to "hide" ourselves from using the web from sprint. Everyone who posted in this thread is equally guilty of it so you can all take your left hand and slap the back of your right one on that.

To keep the answer simple, download like a pirate and keep to the code. If you're so worried about charges on sprints network then know your download limits. Don't go torrenting the next bangbus episode or the new pearl jam cd if you can simply take 10 minutes out of your time at home and use your other high speed connection. If you are downloading half a gig a day, you better beleive you are on a watch list and when you get caught it will not be good. The TOA bandwidth limit is more like a guideline and that is if you push for an inch and ask for a mile, then sooner or later someone will pump the brakes on you. But if you are casual about it then you should not have to worry.

We might not have this free ride for long with all the new features and mods that can be made in the Windows Mobile operating system. I know I use my phone almost the same as I do my laptop and while at work (yes when I should not be on my phone) I am still listening to Slacker radio or checking facebook/email.

This post is just me throwing my two pennies at the dead horse on the matter. But it's a nice rule of thumb.
