Any info on voice calls? I am planning to go to Punta Cana in May, just wanted to get some info.

Also, wonder if the fact that I do not have my Sprint SIM card will be a problem

You do not need the sprint sim card for cdma only for gsm.
You can make voice calls on the cdma but it is 1.99 a minute.

I strictly used the CDMA which does not use the sprint sim card.
goto to phone options select network tab select cdma only and then goto cdma services select roaming and select automatic

The best thing to do for Punta Cana is call sprint international and activate the international data plan for the number of days you are going to be there.
Download skype for your touch pro2 and buy skpe credit to call a phone or get the person you are trying to call to also download skpe. My girlfriend has skype on your touchpro 2 so she knows once I get to Punta Cana to turn on skpe on her cell phone and leave it on I do the same we can then call each other for Free.

It sounds great if you use either a bluetooth headset or a wired headset otherwise the feedback makes it totally useless.

U can also text direct to another skype for free so we can talk and skpe for free.

Your other option is to goto the villiage ask any driver and buy a sim card for Orange and you can use that to make calls.
I had great calls with skpe and I bet as good as using a sim card

If you are going to use a SIM card, like Orange, do you need to run the SIM unlocker on the phone, or do you just pop the new SIM card in and it works?

Also, just to try to understand, if you use the other option, of the Sprint international unlimited data plan, Skype will work through that as well as wifi (if available)?

Thanks in advance.

phone is unlocked right out the box anywhere in the world exdept in the US, so orange will work fine.

yes, skype work either with sprint data or wifi.

+1 for all the above, North Africa here and all is good right out of the box. I haven't tried to get on the 3G yet. And I didnt come across any customization, ROM, unlocking that I must do. All is ok with wi-fi of course. Signal is great, and batty last two days with moderate use.

Whenever I go to China or Thailand, I just pop in my local SIM card and switch phone to GSM only. Had my ChinaMobile SIM card in and switched to Global mode to see what would happen and it made calls on Sprint network even thought I had the Chinese SIM card in, so be careful if you only want to be on the local SIM card to switch over to GSM only. The only reason I use local a SIM card is because it is soooo damn cheap using DTEC or ChinaMobile.

Thanks for this post. I am heading to Qatar and France next few weeks and will report back. I have not unlocked the phone. One of the unlockers promoted her gave me a virus warning, so I got scared. I do have my unlock code from Sprint (MSL).

Looks like the cheapest is to get the unlimited data from Sprint for a few days and to use Skype. But, how can you prevent you friends from calling you and incurring charges? I guess there is no charge if you ignore them, and call back on Skype?

That is exactly what I do I let people call and you can see it on caller id and as long as you dont answer no charge.
Better yet is to get the unlimited data and leave skpe running the whole time and have them call you via skpe.
If you dont to go with the unlimited data the other option in France which I used in France is when I need to use skpe is just turn on the wifi router and as I walked a round the city look at the least of routers and using the names listed look at cafes and match them then go have a drink at the cafe and usually the internet was free. So then I would then use skpe.

The other question is how the heck do you know you got a virus from an unlocker????????
