contact/messege problems

I have a sprint touch pro 2 running energy rom 21885 1/14/10. I fixed the cab so I could send sms but I notice that when I try to send a sms from my contact list it states it "invalid recipient" unless i type in the phone number. Is there a "fix" for this?
