Re: Some confusion about Sprint Tether tracking
Hello, first post here. Got a TP2 last week and I am somewhat confused there seems to be a lot of cabs everywhere for various tweaks and I don't want to install anything that is not needed or out-dated. I have seen several caps for stealth tethering and now this thread seems to say it isn't needed for Sprint? I would like to use ICS via BT can it be done how hard is it? Or should I just wait and not do any tweaking until after 6.5 is released? Are some people saying usb tethering works out-of-the-box without any hacks?

Re: Some confusion about Sprint Tether tracking
I have Sprint and when I was running stock ROM, I wasn't able to tether right out of the box. I have since updated to MightROM's latest release and can tether now. It is weird though, I have 2 options: "Sprint" and "Phone as Modem" --- Not for sure which one to use.

Re: Some confusion about Sprint Tether tracking
I'm sure someone with more info will chime in to correct me but yes Sprint can track you. They look for unusal web activity on your account. For example you've had your tp2 for 3 months showing moderate activity lets say 500MB. Then all of a sudden you start downloading movies and music through teathering and rack up usuage of 10 GB. That will get you watched and eventually charged. This is what I've read on this website. That being said the phone as a modem setting is for people who have purchased teathering plans. When it dials out it is using a different vision username and password that is why it doesn't work. Using one of several cabs avaiable or doing manual regisrty changes you tell Internet sharing to use your sprint connection which is your vision username and password to connect.

Re: Some confusion about Sprint Tether tracking
So what are the latest and greatest cabs? Do they require registry edits? Do you need to uninstall anything prior to installing them or do they just overwrite the existing setings?
Hope there is one for ICS via BT because I just added BT to my netbook. Maybe best to wait and figure this out after the 6.5 update assume it will all change then? Last edited by swak; 01-15-2010 at 04:22 PM. |

why not just use wmwifirouter or something of the like. it's a little easier than setting up bt dun all the time. (memories of my vogue)

Re: Some confusion about Sprint Tether tracking
you do have to be careful though with sprint, and the other carriers, I have had the same rep for nextel and sprint for 10 years (I actually handle the nextel phones for our company and we have about 30), while sprint does not "track" the usage, you can still see how much you used, and my friend has said that sprint and other carriers won't generally do anything unless there is abusive usage, say you download movies every day, or any other large programs and use 4 gig a day, they will notice that, cause how many phones could handle that much traffic!! but the occasional large usage day wouldn't be noticed, I am not on sprint right now, but I use to mainly use the tethering when I couldn't get on a wifi hotspot and needed something larger then my phone to get online with
but for the most part, your general everyday usage, browsing and email would be fine, but they do have a right to limit and/or charge you for what they consider abusive use just like in fine print on the unlimited talk plans, if more then 75% of your calls are roaming, they have the right to bill you roaming charges, and you won't know until your bill comes in just my 2 cents worth |
