Re: Help with ResProxy not sticking
Leave the 0kb resproxy.dll it helps. You are correct in that rom files can't be deleted just overwritten.

Re: Help with ResProxy not sticking
You can write it over with total commander with a blank text file renamed correctly. The phones built in file explorer won't work.
I have a different option for you. Delete this entire key in the registry. [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HTC\BootLauncher\Servic es\ResProxy]

Re: Help with ResProxy not sticking
On my Verizon stock 6.5 ROM I was finally was able to spend the time to hard reset the phone to restore all the files and registry keys I deleted while experimenting, and I have verified that just replacing \Windows\ResProxy.dll with a 0 size file using Total Commander does allow you to set HKLM\Software\HTC\ResProxy\ShareMemSize to 0 and it does "stick" after soft reset.
I'm going to use the phone with normal use for a few days to see if it makes a difference to memory used. Remember this fix is to reduce the increasing amount of memory the phone uses after being running for some time. It won't stop the increase from occuring at all, and it makes little (maybe even no) difference on the amount of memory the phone uses immediately after restarting (people who claim it does have probably implemented this along with the "No Push Internet" fix at the same time and are seeing the result of that fix instead). I'll post here and let the group know what I see |

Re: Help with ResProxy not sticking
Resproxy doesn't free any memory or makes much difference on sense 2.5. on 2.1 it made a huge difference, i went from 50% memory usage to 30%.. but on 2.5 a clean boot is around 50-52% with or without resproxy.
2.5 sucks up memory big time.

I'm not sure how you're gaining 20% (about 40 MB) on restart just from disabling ResProxy |

Re: Help with ResProxy not sticking
OK.. this is what I see after about a days normal use - about 70% in use. This seems to be about 5% less (about 10 MB) then would be without zero-size-ResProxy/ShareMemSize-0. It also seems that memory use is *growing* slower then without the mod. I'd be hitting 75%+ within a few hours before. A good portion of that are programs that just stay in memory after they're launched the first time (big ones are Phone and AudioManager), but a lot of that seems to be from a Gwes process that seems to be growing a lot less/a lot slower.
Again, it only occurs after running the phone for a while. Changing ResProxy isn't going to make a noticable (if any) difference right after restart. Anyone who's saying they see that has probably done something else at the same time (probably the NoPushInternet fix). |
