...it pops up with a dialog box to connect to T-Mobile or AT&T, I choose AT&T.

now hit select that's next to manual.

Under GSM/UMTS service
I click 'band'
get settings:
and have the GSM(1900+ 850) + UMTS(1900+ 850)
