Is it worth upgrading to a class 6 microsd card and which ones for the TP2?

Hi Everyone,

I'm running a class 2 Sandisk 16gb in my Verizon Touch Pro 2 and I'm thinking of upgrading to a class 6 based on a few other posts. The other reason is that I've had this card since my 6800 and I'm afraid of it failing in the near future (already backed up just in case).

Two questions- would a class 6 card speed up access times to say playing an mp3 or loading a video to watch and would it make the video generally play smoother (it's pretty good now but always looking for that extra polish) on the TP2.

2nd question- what brand would you recommend? I was on Sandisks site and didn't see anything about a class 6 16gb but a google search came up with some names.

Thanks for your recommendations and help, it's always appreciated.

Re: Is it worth upgrading to a class 6 microsd card and which ones for the TP2?

I would definnitely recommend that you upgrade past your class 2, even if it's only for the speed improvement. I upgraded to a class 4 and the improved performance was remarkable.

Videos are still a bit jittery compared with my TyTN2/Kaiser (which only enjoyed the benefits of the class 2 card) .. but from what i've seen here, there are other factors at play in this regard than just the speed of the card.

As for brands, I only have access to Sandisk, so i don't have anything to compare with against them.

Hope this helps

Re: Is it worth upgrading to a class 6 microsd card and which ones for the TP2?

higher class simply means higher minimum read rate(class 2- 2mb/sec, class 8 - 8mb/sec etc) so it depends on what you use it for. If playing high bit rate videos or copying large files you will definatly notice difference between class 2 and 6, for most apps you will not notice any difference(unless its a GPS nav soft with preloaded maps or comparable "big ones"). Most cards work higher than what they are rated for though(my personal experience with most sandisks) and some cheaper do not work at the class they are advertised at(no names), only way is to test the card you get and/or read reviews for the one on sale

u really wont notice a difference in card to phone transfer times. but u'll notice faster pc to card speed if ur mem card reader up to date. i use recso explorer and it shows the transfer speed like vista/7 does. i gotta class 2 16gb as well and my transfer times from phone/card peak at about 100kbps. from pc/card it get about 2mbps. a class 6 in theory should give u up to 6mbps. but only if ur cpu can keep up w/ it.

100kb/sec? you must be transferring a lot of small files - try your speed with larger ones(like 10-500mb) i average 5mb/sec with class 4 card(Sandisk) and 6mb on class 6(a-data) on Windows 7 as well(direct connect via USB with Total Commander or MS File Explorer)

There is still a price premium for 16GB Class 6 cards. Unless you're constantly transferring huge files, wait until they're comparable in price/GB to the 8GB cards.

Re: Is it worth upgrading to a class 6 microsd card and which ones for the TP2?

yea personally i dont think it would effect major on which class you have in a PDA but other uses yea data tranfers back and forth maybe over 1gb files...like me i have 6 full movies bunch of pictures and 3-4gb of music and i have no bog or freezing ect. its smooth...but you can waste extra bucks for the class 6 lol..bought a sandisk class 4 16gb ultra mobile for 30bucks new..i do have few more seconds to wait for few mb to tranfer.
