Trust me, Sprint's network is NOT anywhere even close to Verizon's. Yes, both are CDMA. That has very little to do with anything. Why don't you do some reading. After you research this a bit, you'll understand that technologically speaking, GSM is better than CDMA. CDMA may have better coverage in your area, but that doesn't mean the technology is better. And, again, I can link you to the T-Mobile forum on Howard Forums right now and show you literally thousands of people all tellin gyou how much better their T-Mobile service is than Sprint. So don't think the 5 people in this thread claiming Sprint is better means anything. It's all about the coverage in your own particular area. Sounds like Sprint has good coverage in your area. Good for you. But you are out of your mind if you think they have good coverage everywhere. Heck, I could link you to the Sprint forums on Howard Forums and you'll see plenty of current Sprint customers complaining about their coverage. I don't know where you got the idea that Sprint is known for good coverage, but you are sorely mistaken. They have always been only 1 step above T-Mobile in that regard (and T-Mobile has better voice coverage, Sprint was just better on 3G coverage). But with the improvements T-Mobile has made (and continues to make) they are certainly a lot closer to Sprint in data coverage, and will almost certainly pass them in the near future. People in this thread (yourself included) seem to be stuck in the past. Heck, 2 years ago T-Mobile didn't have any 3G coverage at all, anywhere. Now they have every major city covered and are working on the rural areas. Another thing about T-Mobile- they don't list something as covered on their map until it has been totally tested and confirmed. For example, T-Mobile just barely listed my area as having 3G on their map like 2 months ago, but I have a friend at work that has had 3G on his G1 since the day it launched.

Uh, the Sprint plan I am on right now is cheaper than anything on T-Mobile. And this is after T-Mobile just cut their prices a month or so ago. Sprint has been the cheapest for quite a while now. And don't even get me started on stories about bad service. For every stopry about T-Mobile's bad service, I can probably dig up 20 about Sprint's bad service. I understand that this forum is full of a bunch of Sprint customers so their opinion is biased. But go over to XDA, where it is mostly GSM people and ask if people would rather have T-Mobile or Sprint- you'll get a totally different answer than here. Go over to XDA and ask if CDMA is better than GSM, you'll probably get laughed at.
That's obviously because a LARGE number of them DONT live in the states... thats pretty obvious.

So then you are claiming that only people in the states know that CDMA is technologically superior to GSM? It's a big secret that nobody else in the world understands?

Or are you saying the people at xda aren't technologically knowledgable enough to know this or something?

wow salty, you really don't know what you're talking about. the reason other coutries didn't go with cdma over gsm has alot to do with geographics and the infracture of how that country is set up. in other countries it wouldve been alot harder to set their infracture up with cdma technology so they went with gsm towers and technology. their are alot of underlying factors that I will not get into.

Totally false. If CDMA was technologically superior, as you falsely claim, then they would have went with CDMA instead.

There are countries (Canada) that initially went with CDMA, changing to GSM now. So don;t giuve me that bull about them just choosing GSM because it was easier. They had a nationwide, working CDMA network, and are going through all the trouble to change to GSM.

you're also comparing the future with what we have today. In todays world cdma is better in the US then gsm is the US. Once again i'm not a fanboy of sprint or cdma, if gsm gets as reliable and hspda is released then i'm off sprint instantly.

I am NOT comparing the future, lol. I am talking about right freaking now. The largest Canadian CDMA carrier is almost done fully converting their network to GSM. Right now, today.

And there is no way they would go through all the trouble of doing that if CDMA was so technologically superior.

I can't continue this debate anymore, its hurting my head. I'm going to go get on Call of Duty, drink a mamosa (champagne and orange juice) because I finally have a day off with nothing to do because of the new year and wait for Calkulin to upload his newest kitchen so I can build a rom with the newest landscape manilla. HAPPY NEW YEARS to all and i hope i didn't offend anybody today.

Because my friend, most of the innovative phone technology is being implemented overseas where GSM is prevalent. CDMA is superior to GSM in many ways, but has not flourished due to proprietary coding and the already flourishing GSM "flashy phone" market.

-And on topic: I am not planning on moving to the HD2. The screen is pretty, but just too big for my taste. It's something about having to switch from a phone holster to a briefcase that turns me off...

Honestly, GSM vs. CDMA will only get you so far anymore. As soon as carriers shift their phone service onto their data systems, it won't matter. Oops, oh wait, they're doing that next year in the UK!

(Orange is going to HD Voice, which operates on their 3G band)
