I am NOT comparing the future, lol. I am talking about right freaking now. The largest Canadian CDMA carrier is almost done fully converting their network to GSM. Right now, today.

And there is no way they would go through all the trouble of doing that if CDMA was so technologically superior.

So, technically, they are the only ones that can change from one to the other RIGHT NOW.

There's no point in disputing whether or not they could flip the switch to change tech because LTE and Wimax are far more similar than some may realize. They are not nearly as different as CDMA and GSM.

Similar, yes. But they still require different hardware.

All of those low end customers are the ones sprint is losing to tmobile, not their tech savvy customers. Remember i wrote the majority of the US doesn't travel, so if tmobile actually works in your area and they are the cheapest and data speeds arent your concern then you should be on tmobile. The majority of the US doesn't know the difference between 4g or 3g, and tmobile is capitalizing off that.

Well T-Mobile has opnly been cheaper than Sprint for a month or so (since they came out with their new plans). They have been taking millions of customers from Sprint every quarter for a couple years now. So your argument doesn't hold water.

And, again, T-Mobile has been aggressively laying out the best 3G network in the nation, and releasing the best smartphones. You don't think tech savy people care about that?

What he's saying is that most of the customers flock to T-mob DON'T TRAVEL so they don't feel the sting of a less than stellar network. It works at home for those customers and they are good. The customer's who do travel (typically business customers) are far less likely to go to T-mobile due to the spotty coverage.

I gather that is what he's saying. I'm just calling BS on it. If it was only a few customers here and there, I could buy it. But we're talking about millions of people, every quarter. I have a hard time believeing that none of them ever go anywhere. Especially when I know for a fact that T-Mobile has been aggressively upgrading their network, while Sprint has been pretty slow to upgrade theirs (aside from adding Wimax to already existing coverage areas).

Because my friend, most of the innovative phone technology is being implemented overseas where GSM is prevalent. CDMA is superior to GSM in many ways, but has not flourished due to proprietary coding and the already flourishing GSM "flashy phone" market.

I'd do the same, but with Mass Effect and a Long Island. Unfortunately I'm at work for another 3 1/2 hours with nothing better to do ](*,)than continue this debate. It's fun and I continue to learn new things.

Haven't read the other replies(though judging from the last 2 the thread seems....fun lol) but I was very impressed with the specs, though I don't think Ill get the HD2. 1. it probably isnt coming to Sprint. 2. Im on a Tmo dealer line, so I get no upgrade pricing. So Im stuck paying full price. And 2. No keyboard is a dealbreaker for me

lol, no, Sprint and AT&T phones.

I did go to Lake Powell from Salt Lake a few years ago from when I had Sprint before. My kids were on T-Mobile prepaid at the time. They had service the whole way (and EDGE internet) on their sidekicks, while both my wife and I had no service whatsoever (no roaming or anything) on our PPC-6700's.

That was a few years ago though, so it might be different now.

I'm not buying it. So you're telling me that the largest Canadian CDMA carrier is spending billions to convert their existing network into an inferior network? I don't think so man.

I already listed several advantages GSM has over CDMA that are immediately noticable to the end user. I haven't seen one single advatage listed for CDMA. It's just a bunch of people saying "CDMA must be better because coverage in my area is better" or "CDMA is better because I have read it in the past" or whatever.

Hey you guys keep acting like that doesn't mean anything. As if people would stay with T-Mobile if they didn't even get service. So his 9and yours if you agree with him) argument must either be that

1: T-Mobile customers all reside in some super sized city.
2: T-Mobile customers continue to pay for a service they can't even get.
or
3: T-Mobile does in fact have service in a lot of places after all.

Now this I can't argue with. I left AT&T not because of the technology, but because of the antics AT&T pulls. had AT&T acted in a more consumer friendly manner, I would still be with them right now, and probably swapping between my Touch Pro 2 and that LG Projector phone.

It would probbably cause more accidents. Not due to ease of use or size, but because other drivers would be craning their necks going "WTF?!?" :headbang:

I find the Expo interesting as well, but AT&T reps told me that they aren't selling the projector with the phone and aren't sure if or when they will actually have it to sell.

I've mentioned that I've traveled plenty in previous posts, but wherever I go there's a strong signal and now everywhere I go has 3G. Just because I don't waste my time in Hickville, USA doesn't mean I don't travel.

The LG phone is an Android phone (pictures of it showing up in the Sprint systems can be found online). What Sprint has going on with Microsoft is something different. I hope it's something like a wimax Winmo phone, but I kind of worry that it's just announcing a WinMo 6.5 upgrade for the Touch Pro 2.

if they give android another capacitive screen device and they get wimax and the winmo annoucement is just a 6.5 update, i'm going to be extremeley mad. im gonna get the Leo When it comes out, because its so fast n snappy, but I dont get the lag you speak of and i got like 50 cabs installed...

Leo just is insainly quick.. Opens youtube, finds videos and bufferes instantly unlike tp2s like 5 sec......... Now if thats what you mean by lagging then ok I see..... but other than that the tp2 performs great...

First off, I can't believe this thread went so many page with ppl debating if GSM gets more phones or not. That is a fact. NO DEBATE. I know most phones in the past did not have 3g if you were getting phones internationally, so that benefit doesn't appeal to me at all.

And nobody mentioned CDMA 2 which will allow simultaneous voice and data. I read about it last yr. Think we will ever see it?

Good point. I went to a Carol of Lights in December. I had my gloves on along with most other ppl. I'd actually rather have a resistive screen than a capacitive screen after that night. I was able to respond to texts by pulling out my stylus(gloves on and typing was too hard). I'd been SOL like the Iphone users who either froze their hands or just didn' respond to texts. My friend next to me screened texts b4 she would decide to take off her glove and respond.

Also, people are mentioning that swype would negate the need for a hard keyboard. I'm not sure how that will work since capacitive screens are less accurate than resistive screens....I know HD2 users are usng swype so I guess it works, but I was just thinking that isn't swyping just like handwriting? And capacitive screens don't have handwriting recognition b/c it's less accurate. Again, would have to look into this more.

Sure T-Mobile may not have the best coverage, but it's there wherever I seem to go. I'm never stranded trying to get a signal when I can just move 50 feet and get one. I've dropped like 2 calls in 6 years! If you want to be on the phone constantly, talking about your feelings, talking all the way home from work to your friends or your mom about your stressful life, then maybe you need a different carrier to handle your "needs". There would be absolutely no reason for me to switch otherwise, especially since T-Mobile is about to blow speeds out of the water for the next few years.

My friends who have had Sprint said it was terrible. They switched to AT&T and said it was much better. Doesn't make sense. But that's STILL just personal experience. There still is no proof that a network is better besides with coverage. Apparently you've never taken a Research Methods course and found out how worthless Case Study Designs are.

I was going to agree with you and say that word of mouth can even be better than all these "studies". Then, I saw your last sentence and just grinned. Any study can be manipulated to get the most favorable results that the observer wants. FACT.

So wherever the Verizon network is, you can get Sprint service, and vice versa. That was the underlying logic.

While the logic is sound, in execution it's not so rosy. Data roaming limits you to 1x, even when evdo is available, and sprint forces their customers on the sprint network, even when the coverage from verizon is ten times better, and sprints coverage is unreliable.

I know from first hand experience on numerous road trips that my Sprint Service is superior to ATT's in rural areas in TX. That's my experience. On the TP1, if I didn't have service I could do the force roaming trick and find service from Verizon. That would almost always ensure I had service.

I'm in Lubbock. We just launched EVDO last month on Sprint-FINALLY. But during the last two years I have forced roaming on my TP1 to Alltel/Verizon's service to surf on EVDO. So you can roam with DATA and get EVDO. When I switched to the TP2 the force roaming regedits did not work(probably due to the addition of the SIM card and we're missing some necessary reg edis).

The Iphone just has graphical transitions that makes it seem like the program is fully loaded b4 it is. I think speeds of the 3gs and TP2 are bout the same. The 3g Iphone is a snail.
