Bluetooth Serial Ports?

This is in the bluetooth menu on the tp2 i never knew what this was for can anyone explain what its for? what does bluetooth serial ports do between 2 phones? i paired it with my girlfriends imagio and it allows for file transfer and serial ports under the options
