Is it worth tweaking your phone?

While reading around here, there are many tweaks and roms and mods and such to optimize your ppc. They all sound well and good, but reading around i find users encounter glitches and problems that occur when they do install these modifications. my htctp2 is still stock, all i've done is unlocked it, and i'm debating wether or not to fuss around with a new rom or tweak.

i'm all for making my device work faster and customizing it to suit my needs, and i do have questions about how to use certain things (which i'll search the boards for before asking) so i'd like to know how everyone feels about the agony of using a fresh-out-of-the-box version of the tp2 as opposed to the agony of the head scratching and frustration of dealing with the issues that arise from modifying your phone.

i've had my device over the weekend only and am very happy with it so far, and would like to get my hands dirty so any feedback would be very appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Re: Is it worth tweaking your phone?

I think the best suggestion anyone can give you here is going to be try for your self. if you want more stability I would suggest starting out with Mightmikes or Silences roms with scenes UI 2.1. if your feeling a little more brave and don't mind dealing with a few more bugs try one of the ones with Manila 2.5. just make a backup of your data on your phone than start trying for your self.

Re: Is it worth tweaking your phone?

It's kind of like asking: What's better, cats or dogs? You'll get a different answer from different people.

For some people, tweaking is a way of life and a fun hobby. It's strips the phone of all the carrier-installed garbage and allows you to customize your phone to your exact liking.

For others, stock is king. But you likely won't find too many of those people here since most of us on this forum are here because we like to tweak.

As far as glitches is concerned, it's not as bad as you think. Remember, for every one person who posts about some kind of glitch or problem, there's likely 10 more who have had no issues at all and haven't posted anything because they have no problems in the first place. People tend to speak up more when they have a problem than they do when things are going well.

My advice: Flash to a custom ROM and take it for a test drive. If you don't like, you can always go back to the stock ROM and re-lock your phone. No harm, no foul. You really have nothing to lose by just trying it out

EDIT: ...and the answer is dogs

Re: Is it worth tweaking your phone?

Eschelon well-said.

ERN you can also use one of the more popular roms that is out that have most of these tweaks built in. Just try a few as has been mentioned and decide which one fits you best.

Re: Is it worth tweaking your phone?

Some people tweak to get the phone setup just like they want and then they lock down into their stable tweaked phone (new version of stock, kinda). I know for me, and a bunch of others, the tweaking is the fun part and we never will get to the final product. What fun would that be?

Re: Is it worth tweaking your phone?

Dogs are better.
But as far as tweaks are concerned... You will be the onlyone to decide this.... That's the beauty of having a WinMo phone. You don't have to be stuck with what the manufacturer has decided for you. AND... if you like it the way it is... Why change it.
You choose!
Except for cats over dogs....
Dogs... They are the best (In your best Nacho Libre voice.)

Re: Is it worth tweaking your phone?

Points all well taken. Thanks alot everyone. I guess it was inevitable that I would try some new things with my phone anyhow, but I guess I've just been a little nervous since this is my first winmo device and I'm not too familiar with the OS, coming from the Blackberry world. I'll be sure to post my findings with you all and hope to become a contributing part of this community.

Cheers!

Re: Is it worth tweaking your phone?

It's worth flashing since most roms have tweaks included.
