So last friday I took it back and ordered my new TP2 online.
I dont regret my decision in the least! and as an added bonus for some reason, by ordering it online the total purchase including overnight shipping only came up to $168.
Did you know that Driod has been Rooted aka jail breaked

We may get 1 out of 5 returned and thats mainly cause they just wanted out of the contract period.

Maybe you do/don't know, but if you dont, it works off you existing hi-speed ISP connection using one of the ports. Basically, you'll have your own personal Sprint tower in your home. Also it'll allow 3 users to connect at one time, pricing info at link below. But this is only for voice services(calls and vm's), SMS/MMS/E-Mail data only if you have a 1x/Ev signal.

The unit itself is $99
http://www.nextel.com/en/services/airave/index.shtml

Again just my two cent, hope this helps anyone that may have/had similar issues and wasn't quite sure on what to do.
you should tell him to talk to right people. you can get for free as well as monthly service. Thats what i was giving. free airave and free service...

Hopefully your Verizon signal is better than your Sprint signal. I have a friend who got a Droid in an area of Pennsylvania with spotty Verizon coverage. Her Omnia (and my TP2) work pretty well in that area, but the Droid performed terribly. Lots of missed calls and dropped calls. She wound up returning the Droid and went back to the Omnia.

Post back and let us know how you made out!

Re: So long, Farewell....

if i didn't need win remote desktop AND slingbox streaming (on data) i'd have strongly considered Droid recently.

unfortunately droid is lacking in some VERY useful things (just like iPhone) but neither are short of hype especially from those blogging for dollars

.

My brother-in-law just did the exact same thing. He loved the Droid, but he didn't research it real well beforehand & when he realized he couldn't use SlingMobile, Sirius WM6 etc etc etc he switched real quickly back to a TP2.

Re: So long, Farewell....

You'll be back. Once the hype of the Droid wears off, you'll start growing tired of the android way. Don't get me wrong, its a nice phone, but I could never give up all the possibilities of WM.

I know it has been rooted and all, but you'll start losing things like OTA updates if you go that direction.

I think you shouldve asked for a free airrave with no monthly fee instead of ditching Sprint. Several of my friends had no problem getting Sprint to waive the $99 cost and the $5 monthly fee.

yea, an airwave is a good option if the only problem is home phone reception but if he's having problems like I had with Sprint it won't help at all.

In this area, the only service that is 100% dependable is Verizon (which works fantastic) Sprint shows a nice strong signal around here, but nobody I knows uses Sprint because everybody who has tried it in this area had problems.

I need 100% dependable phone service (my calls where CONSTANTLY cutting out, disconnecting or doing the "can you hear me now??" thing) & I also need 100% reliable SMS/MMS (I need them delivered instantly, not 6 hours later or not at all) & I couldn't get either one with Sprint around here.

If this was just my personal stuff, I could live with these problems. A lot of my use during the day is business related however & the problems where totally unacceptable at those times however.
