RAM - VRAM is used to process anything video. For laptops, they always have an actual video card, that either has dedicated memory for video related tasks, or, they have a card that can control and manage RAM and allocate it as VRAM. In mobile devices like PDAs, I think it is similar, if not strictly the latter, being that they always program into the drivers and firmware, that they set-aside a certain amount of RAM to use for VRAM. You do know that the device (Touch Pro) has specs stating that it comes with 288MB of RAM, right? Well, not all of this is even available to the user... You only can even see like ~200MB, and the other portion is allocated for Video RAM. For the HD, I assume that it is an increased amount of RAM, that is dedicated to the Video Board.
I like to be corrected, but only if I say something wrong. To directly answer your question:
"Does ur computer monitor use ram?"
Nope; but to get the data to and from my motherboard and RAM, it needs to be processed and therefore the process does use some of my RAM.
Newer computer systems does not touch ur system ram. That is why the video cards havve dedicated RAM. Up to 1 gig just to run it's own graphics and resolution etc. On mobile phones, If the video chip does not have a dedicated ram, it shares it from the system ram with a particular amount. it will not go over that amount. Now, The RAM that the display is using is being taken care of by the video chip. So the rest of the RAM will be used for the system. SO take the display out, since the hardware is identical to the TP, It will run like a TP but with bigger display. I am a hardcore system builder, hardcore overclocker and a PC modder.

This is not an entirely correct statement. IF there is a dedicated video card, with DEDICATED VRAM, then unless it is dynamic, it won't touch the RAM. However, most laptops and computers either ship with the integrated graphics, or a dynamic allocated video card, which means that they can use system memory for VRAM. Hence, they do touch the system RAM.

I don't see where what I said, was any different here...

That is not true; it has to utilize more VRAM, because it has to support a wider area and amount of pixels. Just like when you run your laptop at a higher display settings, like higher resolution, it requires more VRAM, or runs poorly. This is no different then with VGA+ devices in Windows Mobile. In fact, even the standard programs like Outlook Mobile, use more RAM due to the bigger screen. Now, it most likely is only by a mere KB's, but it is still MORE.

Do U know where VRAM on computers are located? It's in the graphics card. VRAM on the system U may be mistaken as the Virtual RAM. Which is on the HD as a backup if the RAM is not sufficient

I know what I said, and yes, I know the difference. I was continuing with what I was talking about, in regards to my first reply. I mean, that it utilizes, or allocates, System RAM, and uses it AS/LIKE/SIMILAR TO VRAM. It is just how the computer addresses the memory, if I am not mistaken. It just addresses the memory differently, when it allocates it as Video Memory.

It is because Most laptops does not have its own dedicated ram for the graphics part that is why the RAM is shared. The RAM will allocate a certain amount of RAM to run the graphics. Which is all the graphics part needs so U do not touch the system RAM because it is use for the whole system.

CPU and System ram just process the data to be outputed. Then send the instructions the video card. The video card will process that instructions with it's own RAM to be outputed on the display. If U put that load to the system RAM, U will crash everytime U start a hardcore game.

Again, I don't say how what I said above, in any of my posts, is in-correct. You also didn't directly reply to my last comment:
"It is just how the computer addresses the memory, if I am not mistaken. It just addresses the memory differently, when it allocates it as Video Memory."

This is done on an OS level, but still, I know that it physically is still in the same place, but it is allocated to be used for the Video Card. That is why dynamic video cards are not as fast as dedicated; they have longer delay to transmit and transport data.

Re: HTC Touch HD 480x800 WVGA! Look out Touch Pro!

I will give U an example. Even ur system have 8gigs of ram. ANd U use a video card that share the system ram. It will not work a hardcore game. Because the graphics part will not consume all 8gigs of ur system RAM just to process the graphics. System will only allocate a certain amount of ram to the graphics part and when it consumes all of it, It will start to lag until it cannot handle anymore and it will crash.

Yes, you are correct, and I never said otherways. It is usually 384, or 256 that most standard dynamic video cards cap at. Unless it is a higher end Video Card, that can support dynamic allocation of memory, those are the typical highest limitations for video memory.
I'm gonna just say, I believe that you make your own computers, but, I think I am more correct in this situation. I do think you know some, and may know some of what I don't, but none of this has anything to do with the HD, besides my original comments, so let's just act like adults, and let the mods clean this thread up. Shake on it?
