Full Backup Before Flash?

Is there any way to make a full backup that will restore all programs and settings after flashing the rom? Activesync used to have a full backup option but I can't find it anywhere now. I tried using Sprite Backup but that made my mogul lock up after I installed the newest ROM. Now I want to try the Alltell rom, but I don't want to have to reload all my programs and settings. Is there any way to keep from having to do this each time a new rom comes out? Thanks in advance.

I have had no issues whatsoever with SPBBackup and reflashing my ROM multiple times. Also, the HTC Home Customizer has a backup utility baked into as well.

i also second SPB backup.

keep in mind that when you flash your ROM and u try to restore a backup from a different ROM, it will give you problems. best way to restore is restore the ROM, then restore from SPB.

basically, you cant do a restore of an old ROM while on a new ROM

That sucks... I was hoping to not have to reload all my programs and settings every time a new rom comes out.

I agree. SPB is too bulky for my liking, so I use PIM Backup to backup just my contacts/messages/calls, etc. It works perfectly across different ROMs.
