Gmail and the cursed sent items in the inbox

has anyone figured out a way to prevent your sent items from being downloaded onto your phone as a new message? i set a filter to delete any emails in my inbox that were sent by me. it worked fine for a day but my sent messages began to appear again. just curious if anyone has figured out a way to keep them out.

Go into the settings and change your username to "recent:yourusername@gmail.com" ... this fixed it for me.
