thanks, until this post, this was one of very few threads not to whine about the way that WM6 handles memory. thanks for getting this post here in case we missed it in the other 2034729034723047203947039740234 threads that have been hijacked and turned onto this topic. go ahead and keep your fingers crossed that microsoft will have completely redesigned how their operating system works in this minor rom upgrade.

It has NOTHING to do with the way Microsoft designed their OS unless Helmi specifically fixed it for HIS WM6 release for the 6700.

There was no memory leak whatsoever on my 6700 and when I was running on a fresh hard reset, I had 32MB of RAM free and on the Mogul, I have about 25, which dwindles down to 19 without me even opening anything new.

Don't blame Microsoft for Sprint/HTC's screw ups.

Thread un-hijacked.

Hopefully this ROM addresses the issues known with the device. Only time will tell, I guess. I'll continue to be hopeful.

Oh and whoever said they'd be leaving for the Tilt if Sprint doesn't unlock the GPS, have fun, as the Tilt has only aGPS, at&t removed the true GPS so they could continue making money off their mobile navigation services.

aGPS is real GPS. Do some research. the "a" means assisted. It uses GPS data stored in towers to assist in coordination and speed for fixing. It still uses the GPS sat system.

Besides.. aGPS is better than noGPS

In order to utilize the aGPS data the carrier has to make it available to you the user. Usually they charge extra for this in the form of add-on services. Stand-alone GPS enables the handset to get the data directly from the satellites (for free) and you can then use third party software to interpret it.

The ideal scenario for the consumer is that aGPS data is freely available at all times, since it takes a lot less handset power to get the data from the towers as opposed to the orbiting sats. The way the carriers make money currently, this is not likely to happen.

I'll believe it when It happens

ummm how did this go from a good thread about the update for bluetooth coming out to a discussion about gps. BTW isn't there already one of those?

timothydonohue 10-09-2007 02:48 PM

sprints 25 dollar a month (versus the 15 dollar a month) data plan includes gps navigation, if you have a capable phone (mogul esta no bueno por la gps). sprint recently sent me a message telling me as much, and that i should change phones if i want it, lol.

no thanks. i'll just buy a gps receiver, and get rid of the higher data plan, once my rebate lands safe and sound.
