foward your cox email to gmail. It gets spam filtered and then view the gmail from your phone thats what i did

Don't know if you fixed your problem, but Cox has different servers depending on where you live. There is a pop.west.cox.net and at least a pop.central.cox.net.

When you input your user name, just use user name.
Example jones8232@cox.net. you would just use jones8232 as your user name.

When you do the outgoing, you use smtp.sprintpcs.com with the outgoing server requires authentication. Do not check same user name and password for sending e-mail.

The user name is once again the user name before your sprintpcs.com and not the whole thing.

If this doesn't work, then I don't know...
