AIM Functionality

I have the HTC Mogul and I have managed to add the AIM icon to my HTCHomeplug right after the backlight icon. And it works with opening my AIM but once i have it open i have to leave it open to see when i get a new message. Unless i turn the sounds on and i cant bc they are constantly going off. I want to know if there is anyway i could maybe make the Icon blink like orange to yellow when i have recieved a new message. Any help would be great, im not a newbie to this so if it takes high level of knowledge im up for it. Thanks
