Lock phone with hard key?

Hello. This is my first post here, although I have lurked on the board for a long time.

Does anyone know a way to assign the key lock to a hard key?

I tried looking all over the windows directory to see if it was an application that ran when you chose lock, but no luck. I just wish I could make better use of my today screen than having to keep the lock there.

Also searched here and sprint users, to no avail.
