Alltel 6800 MMS and application issues

Ok all I have been testing things out on my 6800 for the last 4 days. I have found 2 apps that break the mms on alltels 6800. They are the threaded sms app and JUVS htc audio manager. After several hard resets those are the ones I have found so far. I will post others as I find them.

Any screenshots of alltel's mms app? How well does it work?

eb3604 08-27-2007 11:33 PM

The version is 3.0.26.9 and helmi, luv and captyaeger already have dump and are currently looking into it. I'm sure if they figure something out with it we will all hear.

It works very well. The nice thing is that you don't have to go to a web site to view. It downloads to the handset.

stearic 08-28-2007 09:54 AM

Hrm.. thats the same program that i already have. Must be a newer version though for it to download to the phone automatically or it's a feature to alltel's network.

Scrotum 08-28-2007 02:24 PM

its not just alltels network, i know for all of my previous sprint phones it downloaded them to the handset. I hope we can get this working with sprint soon

I really hope to get that working soon. I kinda hate having to go into the browswer and go through all that to get the photo. Also to me seems like the photo is also resized to a very small resolution also so that doesn't really work for me.

luv2chill 08-29-2007 12:14 PM

No... people on sprint will get the picture mail web site every time and there's nothing you can do about it--no matter what software you have installed on the handset. It is all dependent on the carrier. Verizon and Alltel have proper mms setups whereby any mms sent to your number simply is passed through their network and to your handset.

But what sprint does is intercept all mms sent to their subscribers, strip the attachment and post to thier web server, then send out an sms to the subscriber with a web link to the picture.

So in short there's nothing you can do about it. That is the way Sprint has decided to implement mms.

Every handset i had prior to the mogul automatically downloaded the pictures so there has to be a way to get this to work

I can post them later today... i have tried and tried to get my 700wx to work and nothing... at one point i was able to receive without a hitch but never able to send. I used the sprint hack from this site and entered in the alltel server info and matched the registry's from the 6800 to the 700wx and nothing????

I'm currently out of town, but i've been working on getting my 6700 set up with the mms also. Here is a screen shot of the server configuration. When I get it working on mine I'll post the correct settings and any registry changes I have made.

Richard Ward 09-10-2007 09:28 PM

I spoke with the Alltel data tech. reps. and they told me that the 6700's hardware does not support MMS. Later that day, I called a different set of people at Alltel and they told me that I can run my own MMS server and send/recv. that way. Other reps. told me countless times that even though I'm running Windows Mobile 6, my 6700 will never do "true" MMS, and that I should upgrade to the 6800. Using the following configuration, I'm able to get pictures (very small size) directly to the handset, and video is sent to axcessmypics.com. I cannot send any type of MMS, however.

Server name: default
Gateway: <blank>
Port: 80
Server address: http://mms.alltel.net
Connect via: Alltel Wireless
Sending size: 350K
WAP: WAP 2.0

Matching the 6800's configuration at my local Alltel store was difficult because it was running Windows Mobile 5! Ouch...

Still waiting for someone to figure it out.

shadow-tech 09-10-2007 09:43 PM

scottishwarrior do you have axess or whatever alltel calls there picture service? did you let the extended rom customize run when you got your phone. I was under the impression the stock rom came with mms support. are you using a arcsoft mms or a 3rd party mms app that you installed? do you think that you phones esn has to be authenticated guys? and like somehow match up with a database on alltels mms server? ive been at this for a long time with no luck. i have alltel and am willing to help to get this to work.

I dont think it is a hardware issue. that sounds like a line of bs. im pretty sure all the mms stuff runs ontop the WM5 rom. I just dont know if there is something alltel has to do on THEIR END to get this to work. just a guess, but the profile in arcsoft mms is set to the 67k2 or 672k xml file or something like that. maybe if we 'trick' the mms server that we are using a 6800, now that its out, and set that as our profile if that will help authenticat it. sory im in a hurry right now. ill try and be more specific later. hope this is ok that im in the titan forum.

Richard Ward 09-10-2007 10:25 PM

If our Alltel store had a 6800 running WM6, I'd totally sit there and video tape everything on the phone to review its settings and version numbers and compare it to my WM6 6700. Alltel is known not to put a lot of "crap" on their stock ROM's, so I assume that the WM6 6800 will be very basic and true to the stock HTC stuff.

scottishwarrior 09-11-2007 11:01 AM

Shadow the mms software is built in not one of the downloads. I did not sign up for axxess, but when I was at alltel this weekend working on another issue I noticed that I was setup for axxess messaging at $0 a month on the account on the rep's screen. Now that may be something for those of you with 6700's to look into.

Jay

Richard Ward 09-11-2007 11:08 AM

Axcess Messaging? Is this different from our Smart Choice plans that include unlimited text messaging? I don't use Axcess (their .exe didn't load on WM5 and I haven't tried on WM6). I wonder what the deal is...

scottishwarrior 09-11-2007 11:28 AM

Richard,
Yes it showed up on a different line than the smart choice messaging. This was on the reps screen. Axxess was directly above the smart choice. What you might do is go into and ask them to enable this because it is available on the 6800. That's what I did when I got my 6800. If they tell you the smart devices don't do it tell the rep to look at the 6800 description.

Jay

Richard Ward 09-12-2007 09:36 PM

I had Alltel enable MMS on my smartphone line. Previous, only the text messaging code was on there from what he told me. After enabling it there are no changes. I still see the small one inch square of the Picture MMS photo and all Video MMS goes to axcessmypics.com... Sigh...

scottishwarrior 09-13-2007 11:02 AM

I was messing with my mms, doing some testing and since upgrading to WM6, my incoming mms messages all go to myaxxess also. Not sure if alltel changed something or if the rom changed something. Going through the registry now and I figure it out I will post.

The exact profile on my 6700 is http://www.htcmms.com.tw/gen/Artemis-1.0.xml I tried to replace the Artemis-1.0.xml with 672k.xml and it did not work, so I need the exact link so we can try that. That xml file has a lot of MMS settings in it. Let me know what you find out.

lennysh 09-13-2007 02:07 PM

The User-Agent on my 6700 is utstar67kv1 Is that what you were talking about?

Maybe we should change this to utstar68kv1, or utstar67kv2. Shadow, did you see utstar67kv2 ???

lennysh 09-13-2007 02:11 PM

I just had Multimedia Messaging added to my Smart Choice Plan. He said it will be unlimited, and does not cost any extra. I will update to see if I can get any further now with getting this working.

Do you have to be connected to the internet? Or will they come through online or not...???

lennysh 09-13-2007 02:40 PM

Ok. Don't know if anybody has ever tried this or not, but I been testing different settings, and I happen to load up the Sprint MMS settings as the default on my MMS Composer. I had somebody send me a picture message, and I still got the real small image that I was getting with some of Alltel settings. So does that mean that the problem is not with the server settings, and maybe something in the registry?? Cause my MMS program was told to connect to sprint, and the message was still received on my phone. And it was Alltel to Alltel. Let me know. I think we've just have to either get the new MMS program that is on the 6800, or mess with the registry. Cause I have already seen that it has nothing to do with server settings. Maybe that little pic is actually sent over the text message, and the phone is supposed to connect to the server, and download a bigger copy to replace it with. Cause the pic is very small, and is black & white. So it's not that big in size at all.

Conclusion, it has nothing to do with the the server settings. That small b&w pic is clearly sent over the text message. It has to be registry setting, or just out dated program.

Let me know what you think...

I jsut talked to tech support and they was able to duplicate the issue on there test phone at Alltel.

We was able to send from 6800 to another non 6800 phone all fine.
6800 to 6800 wouldnt work, theirs is factory and mine is wm6 updated.
any phone to 6800 wont work either.

What is the Registry Settings under the following key's:

HKLM\Software\Arcsoft\Arcsoft MMS UA\Config\UI\Domain = ??

Everything under:

HKLM\Software\Arcsoft\Arcsoft MMS UA\Config\mm1\WspHeader\

There may not be a Arcsoft MMS UA on the 6800, but I hope it's close enough to find the settings I need.

Lennysh, check your PM's, I sent you the info from my phone... Only reason I didn't post it here is I don't know if my md5 hash is unique, and not sure if I want that public... if someone can tell me it's not a issue, I'll post the info here...

Right after you sent this, I found a registry export of all of the Arcsoft Registry settings. I ended up making a lot of changes to my registry on my 6700... Let me know if anybody want's that file to examine, and I'll post the link. That hmac was the same in this file as well hecatomb...

lennysh 09-13-2007 11:00 PM

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Arcsoft\ArcSoft MMS UA\Config\mm1\WspHeader]
"X-Alltel-MDN"="<you 11 digit cell number here>"
"Accept-Language"="en"
"Profile"="http://www.htcmms.com.tw/gen/Titan-1.0.xml"
"Accept"="*/*"
"hmac-md5-key"="ph1uzoe52iuw"
"User-Agent"="Titan"
"Accept-Charset"="us-ascii;utf-8;iso-10646-ucs-2"

I think the hmac-md5-key code is our answer. I think that this is supposed to be sent to alltel to verify we are using their MMS software that came stock on the 6800, since it is unique for Alltel. So therefor my final answer to this problem is we need to get the software exported off of the 6800, and installed on a 6700. Therefor everything that need's to be sent to Alltel, will be sent.

Also on mine, it was X-VzW-MDN....on the 6800, it's X-Alltel-MDN.... I don't think the Verizon software is sending this anymore if we change X-VzW-MDN to X-Alltel-MDN. We just really need to get that software exported.... Who can do that?

Richard Ward 09-14-2007 01:20 AM

What if we ran our own MMS server. Would that still allow us to connect to users not using our MMS information? I've been looking at mbuni.org. The Alltel tech I spoke to today said I could probably just run my own MMS server.

It's a good idea, but I would imagine it would only send stuff to people on the same server. Cause a server has to have the support to be able to send to other servers. Like how it took a while for Alltel to let us send pics to Verizon. The server didn't support it. They had to integrate it into the server. You'd have to find a server that said it supported Alltel inorder for it to be worth it. And then it would be just what that server supported. I haven't really researched it much, so I don't know of any good server's to pic from.

I actually don't have a "X-Alltel-MDN" entry in the registry under that Key...

There IS however a:

Just saw this on HowardForums... looks like Alltel is having an issue with the picture messaging. Possibly a reason why your testing may not be working...

Nice.. I can't send, but everything I receive goes to the same website, just like in the howardforums thread above.

Could be why, but they are not having any problem's sending to a non-6800 phone. I wish I could send to a non-6800/6700 phone period. And I get a different message when trying to receive a message.
