Tweaking the recognizer behavior

I like the block recognizer on my PPC 6800. However, every time I reset, it gets turned off, switched back to keyboard. This is very frustrating. Can it be fixed any way? It drives me crazy, because the short battery life of the 6800 forces me to regular swap batteries, which consequently means I regularly reset the device. Then when I do want to go change the recognizer, the delay required to bring up the menu feels excruciatingly long.

I am also wondering about somehow modifying the recognizer itself. Could it be mode translucent, as not to obstruct the content below? Or perhaps something like Graffiti Anywhere and various apps for the Palm OS of yesteryear exists? Something to allow writing anywhere on the screen?
