Re: Programming via USB
Flashing the radio via USB is really not a prefered method. I may be wrong, but I THINK the only way to do it is to flash the Alltel ROM that carries the radio. DO NOT let the customizations run after flashing (ie - do not touch the screen after flashing). Then re-flash to your stock ROM. You will lose all of your data and settings, as with any flash or hard reset.
The much better way is using your SD card. If you have a USB cable, simply use that to copy and paste the file from your computer to the SD card in the phone. Or you can download the file directly from the web browser on your phone. Flashing the file this way (using one of the radio only ROMs) will give you a seamless upgrade and you won't lose any data.

Re: Programming via USB
Try going here and just flash the most current Carrier stock ROM and it should update your Radio to a 3.42.xx which will enable GPS

Re: Programming via USB
Yearn, That is a link to a Verizon ROM. I don't understand. The Verizon Radio and their ROM wont allow GPS, that's what I have on the phone now. From what I read I need to unlock the phone by loading a new bootloader, install a radio from a carrier that don't cripple features on their customer's phones (like Sprint), not allowing customizations. Then put in one of several GPS capable ROMs, like those from DCD, or GGURUUSA or cook my own ROM from a Kitchen. The only thing I'm stuck on is doing the Radio without a PC with a SD card reader. I don't care about losing data if that just means contacts and old messages. Does anyone know if I can do the radio via the USP port somehow.

Re: Programming via USB
OK man, Try this
(1) Unlock your phone (2) Flash this ROM--> http://www.htc.com/us/SupportDownloa...at=2&dl_id=114 (3) Stop it before customizations run (4) Flash custom ROM of your choice ------------------------------------------------ This should work perfect and enable your GPS |

Re: Programming via USB
OK Yearn, You seem confident so I'll try it tomorrow. This phone was a gift so if I brick it I'm dead meet, gulp!! "What me...worry!" as a wise man once said.

Re: Programming via USB
Ok so the stock verizon rom will allow gps no problem. No custom roms are needed but there is a catch. If you have active data plan account then gps is easier. If you don't have data then you need to do a couple things to allow the MR1 or MR2 to use standalone gps. Let me know if you want instuctions

Re: Programming via USB
Yes Drewcam888 I sure could use the instructions. I've just been trying to follow the instructions given in the "Official Upgrading Guide" located here http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=33857. The instructions are ok guess, they basically say I must first "Unlock" the phone by using Olipro 2.40 via USB (or nuespl 2.47 via SD card). They say this will then allow me to update my radio rom to one that will allow GPS to work. I think most people use the later Sprint radio's (3.35 or later). I assume that Verizon radios higher than 3.35 still do not work, each carrier has its own revision numbering system.
Ok, then installing the new radio rom is the second thing to do but the only way they describe is via the SD card, which I can't do because I don't have an SD drive on my PC. The last thing to do is install a custom ROM and they give instructions to do this via the USB. They specifically say that the new radio is not compatible with the stock ROM. I quote them here: "By the way don't worry about the phone failing to boot past the splash screen after you install the radio, because it won't. The radio you just put on is not compatible with the stock ROM. Once you have unlocked and installed a radio you are ready to load your custom ROM. So at this point you can use one of the Custom ROM's that are posted here at ppcgeeks.com, such as no2chems or DCD's , or you can venture into the world of building your own". So that is where I stand. I'd just like to get my GPS working and be able to burn custom ROMs or use the kitchens if I want. I DO NOT have a data plan and can't justify paying for one (out of work). Here is the info on my phone: ROM ver. 3.57.605.1 Radio ver. 3.37.75 PRL 51307 PRI 2.03_002 ESN xxxxxxxxx If you can help that would appreciated a lot. Re: Programming via USB
Ok so you have a couple choices. You use standalone(No data plan) gps with your current stock rom or go to a custom rom. Which do you want instuctions for?
Assuming you want custom rom. Here is tutorial for unlocking phone for custom rom http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=33857 For gps turn location on under phone and then disable agps is registry under. local machine-software-htc-supl agps set enableagps to zero. Now use htc gps tool or gpsviewer for lock info Last edited by drewcam888; 05-27-2009 at 02:02 PM. |
