The wifi switch is certainly in the correct position, and it can't be a dead chip because it used to work. I'm no amateur to the process of flashing phones (Used to own the Xv6700, flashed almost once or twice a week), and that older phone always had perfect wifi connectivity.
Any help? The thought of maybe faulty drivers entered my mind, because in the "Connections" tab, I see no Wireless LAN or WLAN option, just wifi.

Would you mind posting your phones specs? We need ROM and such. Also "it can't be a dead chip because it used to work", remember when Mom used to say "There's always a first time for everything"? This could be the failure of your chip. My WiFi chip on my last phone went out, because the Titan is very cheaply built. I went to wake up my phone this morning and was in bootloader, tried soft reset pulling battery, hard reset, etc, nothing worked. I almost called for a replacement, but I pulled out the battery and put it in an hour later, before I was gonna try MTTY, and it booted up... So, really there is a first time for it all, this could be the start of hardware failure for you. I would call and get it replaced if I were you, even more so if you have the white spot...
